So delicious, I needed to visit twice in less than 24 hours! A small but mighty gem of a place, within walking distance of Dalhousie University in Halifax. The passion owner and chef Hüseyin has for his business comes through so tastefully in all the dishes I have tried here. As an appetizer, started with the kale soup (kale, romaine bean, corn and tender lamb cubes) With just the right amount of chili peppers to add bit of heat without overpowering, this soup is the best I’ve had outside of Türkiye. Second item ordered was a spinach borek. As per previous reviews, these are fresh daily and delicious. Main course was a ripe, melt in your mouth “imam fainted” dish. An eggplant split open and filled with cooked tomatoes, ground lamb/beef, bell peppers. All the flavours fuse into an incredible taste that had me coming back bite after bite with the same excitement as my first. Dessert was homemade baklava, prepared in the style and wonderful taste one would find in Türkiye. Quality and delicious ingredients at a value price point. I hope Hüseyin continues to keep up the valiant efforts so many locals and tourists can benefit from his decades of...
Read moreWe went to this Chef's kitchen because it had such a good review. Yes, it's a good place to eat, however, as a general comment, it seems in Halifax the rating seems a bit too generous.
The food was tasty, I fad the tandoori chicken. The plate consisted of reasonably sized chicken pieces with rice and salad. Everything tasted good. I am still confused why it is called tandoori though!
The service was an interesting experience, they were out of most things, lamb dishes, moussaka, or soups. I think we were their last customer. The only choice we had was mainly chicken. My interaction with the owner/chef/host was rather intriguing. I asked him if the tandoori chicken is an Indian dish with Indian spices he responded "this is a Turkish restaurant". He was very polite and pleasant with us, however, his passive aggressive comment wasn't necessary in my opinion. After all, they had pasta dishes, which is an Italian cuisine, pardon my confusion.
The atmosphere was nice and well setup. It looks like it is more of a lunch place rather than dinner per se.
Overall, it's a decent place to have lunch at. You might want to come early since they seem to run...
