This beautiful business is not just any business, this is an exceptional experience to be had by one and all! From the moment I walked in to this cozy shop I knew this would become a favorite happy place for me! The aroma of freshly baked cake combined with the warm, friendly atmosphere, brought me back to a similar feeling of my Mom's beautiful kitchen! I've ordered various cupcakes on different occasions for friends and family, and recently ordered The Chocolate Chocolate Cake for my boyfriend's birthday celebration! I can't express enough just how scrumptious their recipes really are! This batter recipe Layers uses is not too sweet, but just perfectly sweet enough when combined with the smoothest, dreamiest icing that I have ever tasted! The people in this company are not only cheerful, friendly and kind, but they are true professionals who know their stuff! We had a vanilla bean pound cake with strawberry butter cream icing. While this cake was beautifully decorated, I would have to say that I was a bit disappointed in the cake and icing. I was expecting a bit of strawberry compote from what was described, but was simply a slightly overdone cake with an icing that was really not packing a flavour of strawberry. Everyone said it was a good cake, but it was evident that it wasn't the best as there were no empty plates. People ate it, but should have been an overwhelming success for the price. The biggest problem I had was that a cake I made from scratch for my wife was a much better cake...seriously. Great look and smell but quality control needs improvement (or may be recipe?). I’ve learnt few years ago not to buy their cupcakes with light colored icing as it was crunchy from undissolved powdered sugar. I started to buying only the ones with chocolate icing, they always had smooth texture because I guess it needs longer mixing time..? This year for my daughter’s birthday I had to buy 18 cupcakes of all kinds. I was hoping that may be some icing won’t squeak and crunch but no luck :( Lemon, coconut,, vanilla, strawberry, you name it - all but chocolate icing - were too gritty and crunchy for professional bakery. Anyone who ever bothered to make their own buttercream knows that it’s not a rocket science to fix the sugar crunch - it just require more time to mix.
