I've been living in Halifax for over 10 years and was quite surprised to stumble upon this place last evening. It did not disappoint!
Firstly it is located in a nice, quaint spot downtown with lots of available street parking nearby. I was first impressed by the decor of the interior. It was modern, bright and very inviting.
The service was also top notch.. The server was friendly and observant. He didnt allow our glasses to run empty before refilling them. He noticed when we were using alot of the sauces and quickly offered more. It didnt matter how much we used, he was keen to ask if we wanted more as if they had an unlimited supply. We appreciated that! He was friendly, interactive and very professional.
The food was tasty!! We really enjoyed the Pho and the broth was so comforting. I could definitely drink it by the cups lol. We also bought some spring rolls. I believe they are a bit over priced at $7 for 2 rolls, but they were pretty tasty nonetheless. The experience was wonderful. I would...
Read moreWalking along Barrington Street Today, I walked by this spot and immediately loved the decor, although I couldn't figure out what this place could me! With the name Man Bean I half expected it to be a coffee shop but the decor was too formal and there was a bar ($3 Garrison all day) =| . So I looked them up and got routed to their Facebook page. It's a Vietnamese Restaurant! So I stepped in and browsed their menu; it's small but there was enough on there for me. I settled on a glass of TallShip Pale Ale, and a hearty bowl of Bún bò Huế
My meal came within 10 minutes and was served with a side of bean sprouts, mint, lime and chili oil. The noodles in this were slightly thicker than rice noodles and it was served with beef brisket and pork ribs. The meat was tender and the broth was rich. I had quite a bit of it before adding hoisin and chili sauce. A bit of a pleasant surprise for me were the chunks of pineapple.
I don't usually have beer with a meal but this was a...
Read moreMy wife and I noticed this place while walking around in the south end. We stopped in and ordered the House Special Pho (me) and the Pho Hue(wife). There were lots of options for drinks alcohol and non and we decided on an apricot craft beer they had on tap. The beer was delicious and before we finished our first 8oz glasses our soups arrived. My House Special Pho was fantastic. It came with all the proper side options and some home made chili-garlic oil, rounding out the already flavorful broth. The rare beef and cooked brisket were both tender and tasty. My wife also enjoyed her Pho Hue. My only complaint would be the portions are a little smaller than a lot of other Vietnamese restaurants. I am used to getting large bowls with more broth than most people can manage. So while the portion size is a little smaller, the flavor more than makes up for it. I will definitely be going back and trying their other dishes. Highly...
