Disrespectful/Unprofessional Manager At Nations

I had a really bad experience at Nations in Jackson Square. The cashier who claimed to be the manager refused to serve me.

Initially it started when I joined the line and this cashier asked me to stop with his hand sign as there was a customer ahead of me. I realized that he might be trying to promote distancing and stopped right there. I stood there and waited and put the separator behind the groceries of the customer ahead of me. The cashier stated in a rude manner “one at a time and put the separator away”. I asked this cashier whether he is here to serve me or to fight me. Initially, there was his rude hand sign when I was not even near the customer ahead of me and then it was him moving the separator away and speaking to me rudely. His tone was rude from the very beginning.

After I asked if he was there to serve me or fight me considering his tone and actions were rude, he stated he would not serve me since I am disrespectful towards him. I advised him that I have not even put any items on the conveyor belt yet and you are saying that I am being disrespectful.

I waited as the cashier was moving the last few items on the conveyor belt and started loading the items on the conveyor belt. The cashier asked me to remove the items from the belt again. He also stated that if I do not move them he would not serve me. At this time I was frustrated and refused to move the items from the belt and asked him to call the manager or send a different cashier to help me. He claimed that he was the manager and smirked. He also stated that he would not process my groceries and that I need to take it to a different cash register.

As I refused to move to a different cash register, this cashier stated about me to the customers behind in the line that we have a very bad customer here. He asked the customers behind me to move at a different cash register. He put the chain up next to the cash register signalling that the cash register is now closed. After this he left the cash register and stood at the back. I turned on my phone’s camera and recorded the aftermath of this.

As I turned on the camera this person moved away and went to security outside the store. I spoke to individuals in customer service asking for the manager and they mentioned that he was the manager. Frustrated, I informed about his bad customer service and left the store without the groceries.

I have shopped at Nations multiple times before during COVID-19 lockdowns. I have loaded groceries on the conveyor belt after putting a separator and there was never a problem. If there is a change in their policies they should communicate it clearly and politely to the customers. Considering, this rude way of communicating and enforcing supposed social distancing policy came from a manager makes it even more appalling.

This manager did not have the nerve to face the camera and just ran away to security. If this manager wants to run a store he needs to learn to communicate clearly and politely regarding his policies including social distancing. Refusing to serve customers like this I feel is really disrespectful. Customers need to be advised beforehand what proper social distancing protocol is while buying groceries. Also, this manager needs to learn proper conflict resolution skills instead of running away.

I am considering never coming back to this store because of this manager’s behaviour. If people in management positions have such bad professionalism my expectations would be low for the rest of the store. Photo of this manager/cashier is attached. Zero...

This is such an amazing grocery store I really wish that they was more of them throughout each surrounding city instead of the regular grocery store food chains

These ethnic and diverse grocery stores are much more needed and in high demand in my opinion! The regular run of the Mill grocery stores that are ALWAYS overpriced for ethnic foods! ( like sorry I have taste buds and I like my food to be seasoned!)

Amazing spices! For a great price Every single noodle you could think of my favourite are the soba buckwheat noodles and if you’re a little calorie conscious as I find myself sometimes then the rice noodles are amazing and they take less than two minutes to cook.

All sorts of rice Dairy products Bakery Hot foods table Plaintin chips Hygiene products Frozen foods and desserts

They have GREAT SNACKS for the whole family to enjoy ;)

and every single tea you can think of for the tea lovers out there whenever I come into the store they always have matcha!!!! COLD OR HOT

And they have those tapioca balls so you can make your own Boba !!! drinks at home with ALL the flavours from taro- mango- honeydew- green Matcha!

their prices on vegetables and fruits are always affordable and reasonably priced I can get a pack of zucchini for less than two dollars!

They have fresh meats available of all sorts and write out the tank seafood available!!!

They also have AMAZING OPTIONS FOR VEGANS!!!

If you are in the area or NOT I highly suggest coming in and making the trip you’ll definitely find something suitable for your taste buds and your wallet

ALSO the coconut buns are simply to die for!

One thing that I don’t like about the grocery store is that you have to pay in debit or cash! NO visa or...

This is one of the worst supermarkets in Hamilton. It's only getting worse because their management doesn't care. I called them to enter a complaint, but they only address pricing errors, not service related issues.

Their price tags are confusing, misleading, and they repeatedly make mistakes on checkout. I usually check my receipt, so I know that checkout errors are very common at Nations. On average, they make one error out of every 2 visits. If you shop there, you should verify your receipts.

Today (11am, Tuesday, May 21st, 2019), I encountered 2 cashiers that never stopped gossiping with each other while checking out my groceries. Both girls, both Caucasian, were on duty at their cashier stations. Both were checking out groceries for customers. The subject of their conversation was personal. The conversation started before checkout began, and did not end after checkout ended. Both girls do not greet the customer, talk to the customer, or pay attention the items being checked out. They disrespect the customer and their work environment. It's the rudest unprofessional behaviour I have ever witnessed. The severity of this incident makes me think that both girls should be fired for misbehaving.

Update (3pm, Friday, June 7th, 2019). I needed someone to help me with the BBQ pork. So, I said "Hi there." The old guy replied "Can't you wait?". Then, he took 3 minutes to put on his plastic gloves. I picked 2 pieces of BBQ pork. Then, he said "Use hand gesture. I can't hear a word from you". It's not the first time this guy was rude. I went to Nations specifically for the BBQ pork. Now, I seriously consider purchasing from another shop because this old guy is the only person...

You cannot go wrong with Nations supermarket, especially if you love SE Asian food. This location is slightly smaller than the location in Mississauga and the staff can be a mix of locals, very helpful or newly arrived with terrible command of English: - I found pre-cooked half duck and since I like Peking duck, I kept asking if they sell pancakes; no staff, young or old could understand what I meant until an old Chinese lady shopping there helped me in the front section. What I purchased though was something similar to tortilla, per her advice - they also have cooked food, variety of drinks/snacks/sweets as at the other location however no one knew the 8 packs of spicy seaweed I like so much; I guess they do not stock them here - there is also a fresh veggies/fruit section where I got some amazing lychees, plus watermellon quarters etc - Parking is on the left hand side of the entrance (supermarket is located not far from the entrance of the mall) as you look at the building from the street and you can easily miss it as they have automatic doors you can open by taking the ticket showing your entry - 1 hour parking is free, enough to buy your stuff in the supermarket, then go to the security guy located at the desk on the left of the supermarket to show your ticket and take the elevator to your garage level - right near the supermarket, in the mall there is a Tim Horton and then the toilets, which are very clean. - people around there look a bit funny, so keep your eye on your bags all the time.

The most variety of any grocery store in the city, rivaled only by Lococo's, but that's practically stoney creek. The fresh veggies are all reasonably priced, I bought salmon, about 1.2 kg for $21, which seems to be better than average. I made poke bowls 2 weeks ago and they turned out amazing. This was my homemade dish, not from the ready to eat food they also have here. The hot food buffet is back open but they got rid of the chicken tenders which was my main choice when eating there. There were some parts of the place that used to appear a little grimey; they seem to have fixed that! The one thing I would note is that you should avoid buying exclusively western foods from here. Things like cheese and butter, ketchup and frozen French fries. Things like this are waaaay more expensive than any other grocery store around. I helped an elderly man load his groceries into his mobility scooter and his bill came to $65 because he bought 2 bricks of cheddar ($9.50 each) and a lbs of butter for $8.99. I suggested thay he should get the cheese and butter at another store but he doesn't drive, so he shops there because it's close to his place. His milk and eggs were normally priced, I would say because those ingredients are more ubiquitous the world over vs cheese and butter. As long as you're aware of these things *before* shopping here, it gets a 5 outta 5 from me.

Terrible customer service they hang up on you on the phone, don’t speak English well enough to deal with a customer service issue. Literally you go to ask one of the workers stocking shelves if they know where something is and they direct you to someone else or they just don’t know what to say because they can’t say it (lack of English) You guys gotta hire people that speak English if they’re to be around customers this is unacceptable int the service industry . I called 15 times after my first call 20 minutes ago because of an expired food item I bought 23 hours ago when I was there Friday, August 30 12:09pm. I called 20,‘united ago and this lady asked if I spoke Chinese, I responded no. I asked if they do refunds or exchanges and she didn’t know enough English to respond and hung up on me. Everything in my body is holding me back from rushing over there right now and yelling at these people that is something they do not want I promise you I am not a happy customer right now. Absolutely ridiculous and terrible service, selling old food goods. I will get to the bottom of this let’s hope management actually cares.
