Manny Rebelo ran that restaurant to the ground. A good operator is interactive with their employees, shows them how to do things the correct way, teaches and guides the employees and the management team. You CANNOT do that while sitting in the office all day. Whenever he did decide to come out of the office he would just yell at employees and management team and be little them, in my eyes that is a terrible manager. He would try to make the management team pay for things when it wasn't even their business. He would try to blame everyone and anyone for his shortcomings and mistakes. At times he wouldn't come into the restaurant for weeks at a time, and would leave everything for the managers to do. He would give away free food to people and claim it was good acts (locke st, bulldogs, tiger cats) and would yell at the managers because the inventory was short, if you're going to give away free stuff then you should understand it will affect the business and you have nobody but yourself to blame for that. Furthermore he would borrow items from other stores all the time like he was grocery shopping at them. Sometimes he wouldn't write them down so when the other stores called for their stuff back the management team would have no idea what they were talking about. That does not make them look good in the eyes of others. this man is not worthy to speak down on others. He put himself in his position for handing his keys away. He never should have been given an operator role to begin with. Now he wants to cry wolf about how he lost his business(which is his own doing) that he lost his home, and his car. 35 years of experience down the drain. 35 years and he didnt learn how to run a business correctly. He still owes more than half of his old employees money that they will never see. Money that they worked hard for. Now he goes on social media trying to bash Cara. Cara is a great brand and he put himself in that position. He has no right to say anything bad about them. The man has no shame, making others do his dirty work for him and at the end of the day he still cant take any blame for what has happened to him. It's pathetic, i have nor remorse for what happened to this man. He would short peoples pays, take away hours that they worked before pay roll, and when the employees would notice he would blame one of the managers for doing it. Man up and take responsibility for your own actions. He owed so much money to suppliers that he had to use other stores to order product for him multiple times. If you don't have good knowledge in how to keep the money in the business and where the money needs to go within the business then you shouldn't have ran a business, it resulted the way it always does for that matter, failing. The fact that you try to post things on social media and act like you're the victim here is very pathetic, you should get no empathy...
Read moreIn a word: tired. It feels like this location isn't as profitable as others and all the things we come to expect from SC have been thinned out to save a buck here or there. If this was the only Swiss Chalet we knew, it would be fine, but unfortunately it doesn't measure up to other locations. We've now eaten there a half dozen times or so, and every time has been a disappointment, in almost every way. The chicken? Dry and overdone. The chalet sauce? Thin. The portions? Adequate, but skimpy compared to other locations. The staff? Friendly enough, but we've had two visits where the server admitted they had a bunch of no-shows and that they would be slow themselves as a result. On two other occasions, each server was more interested in chatting with a table of old friends than serving us. On another, the server was extremely rude when we asked for things that had been forgotten (chalet sauce, coleslaw, etc.). The service time? Very slow compared to other locations (and we have two small people, so we really notice). The order accuracy? Every single time, something has been missed (the last time a few weeks ago, we didn't get cutlery or chalet sauce for example). The bathrooms? Grimy. The little things you come to expect from SC? Missing or half-baked (broken, greasy crayons for the kids, cold and stale dinner rolls, and we have never seen warm lemon water to wash our greasy fingers at this location). The decor? Fading. And so on. On our last visit, we resolved to drive up to Ancaster from then on, even though we live...
Read moreThe Swiss Chalet located at 151 York Blvd in Hamilton is a personal favorite of mine for several reasons.
Service: The staff are warm and friendly. Trish and Edie are always welcoming, and treat you like family. There is also a takeout area where you can order and go, and the wait time is very short.
Ambience: There is always seating available, and music is always playing at a comfortable level. The windowed front allows for people watching while you relax and enjoy your meal.
Food: The menu is varied, with something that will appeal to everyone. Although they have discontinued the beef kaiser (my personal favorite), they do bring it back from time to time. The legendary Swiss Chalet sauce is always on tap, and don't miss out on the chicken spring rolls. They are delicious. My go to meal now is The Canuck, a BBQ chicken sandwich served with a coleslaw topper. Of course, they also play the hits, including chicken and ribs.
Intangibles: The manager, Marion, is very friendly and approachable, and actually helps serve the food, which I like. It's all about the teamwork. They also have a great loyalty program where your fifth meal is free, and run promos regularly.
Overall: The convenient downtown location, pleasant decor, cleanliness and spacious layout all contribute to a winning formula. A well earned...
