If you ask a group of Hammer locals who has the best burrito in town, this place will undoubtedly come up. As I always do, I checked the 1 star reviews and was a bit concerned by some of the owner responses. However, the sheer number of good reviews, and the timeline...well, you can't make everyone happy all of the time, and after visiting I expect they just don't suffer fools lightly. So be cool or no Burrito for you! Service was excellent for me.
It's a bit off the beaten path in a tiny strip mall. It's clean and vibey, with a table or two, but primarily for take out. There are lots of vegetarian/vegan options, but we had steak and chicken. The meat was a bit salty, but the burrito sauce is a sweet thai chili..which sounds weird and explains some comments. It actually works very well and balanced perfectly. It is the most flavourful burrito I've had locally and the wife accused me of tricking her into eating spinach, after she ate it and loved it. They handled substitutions gracefully, I don't like rice in my burrito and sometimes the burrito will end up under stuffed as a result. These folks made up for it with beans and greens and didn't scrimp on ingredients.
One thing I didn't understand, is they have all of these hot sauces on display. I mentioned they have a lot of cool hot sauces but I was only offered medium or hot. I would have happily paid extra to try a couple of drops of one or two of those bottles, or maybe had a few more questions about what kind of hot sauce. What-ever hot sauce they put on was delicious, both medium and hot, but I think they're missing an opportunity.
Awesome burrito, Nice folks, Hot...
Read moreI am skeptical of anyone claiming to know the best burrito spot, but this recommendation from a colleague was IT!
Parking can be hit or miss especially as it gets busy during lunch time, but plenty of street parking super closeby. I have not dined in and the seating is limited anyways, but always a (justified) line up whenever I have went.
Despite it, the service is fast! I was shocked that there were 9 people were ahead of me that did not place an order in advance, and I was still served in less than 10 minutes.
I have only encountered Nolan here, and he is absolutely lovely. He is so personable with great people skills, and I can tell he is well liked and respected by the way he interacted with other patrons. Even with me, it was my second time here and he actually remembered little details about my order like no onions, and even the specific sauce!
Speaking of, big points for the creativity here; the sauce selection here is expansive and so unique! I look forward to trying more of them.
As for the most important part, this is the best burrito I have ever had, and I have been to many burrito spots all over the GTHA. The prices are incredible for the fresh ingredients, and especially the portions; I made the mistake of getting a large and it put the large option other burrito places offer, to shame. Nolan really knows how to make it all work! I also appreciate the recommendations he gives, how he adds in an extra bit new sauce for me to try, and a lollipop!
Truly a gem of a place! Thanks so...
Read moreThe three of us went to try this place for the first time. I ordered large chicken burrito, my son ordered the pulled pork burrito, and my daughter ordered the chicken quesadilla. First couple of bites were Not as flavourful as I expected. Then all three of us started to notice tough chewy rind pieces of dark meat in all of our food. I spit the first one out and it was a tough piece of steak. I took a few more bytes and there was more steak then chicken, Chewy Steak! I spit the rest out to have a look. They didn't even bother to trim this mystery meat they put into my chicken burrito. We also noticed that there was an overwhelming sweet flavor. Turns out this was their salsa. It was like syrup. Way too sweet. We didn't finish our meal. Someone working there asked if I needed something, I said my chicken burrito has steak in it. Then she asked "you can't eat steak? " I answered "I can eat steak but I ordered a chicken burrito." They offered to make me a new one. She didn't acknowledge the mystery meat in my burrito. And then asked again "so chicken only right?" before she started to make a new one. I became concerned about what my kids and I had eaten. fortunately none of us got sick. We go to the burrito place in Stonycreek all the time, that actually has the best burritos in town. This place doesn't even come close. I'm not sure what others are seeing in this place.I would not recommend going here after...
