El Taquero - Tacos, Tequila & Catering — Restaurant in Kelowna

Update: 20th April 2023 Ridiculous establishment!! They had an offer on Uber and while I was in the middle of placing an order with them they shut down the app. When called to check, they said they were busy so turned it off and asked us to try after 5 mins. We waited for 20 mins and then called back, they hung up on us. When called again saying that the call was disconnected, the guy said, we are busy, we cannot switch it on and hunged up again!! If you cannot handle any offers why post them? Do not forget, that a customer in a restaurant and customer ordering takeout is the same and you have lost 1. Your'll are the most rude and disgusting people we have come across. Horrible service! Shame on you guys! Wish could deduct all the stars! You guys don't even deserve 1.

I tried their burritos and tacos, food is 10/10. Burrito was very filling, yummy and worth the money. Tacos were extremely tasty but a little expensive as they don't fill you up. You pay just for the taste, but still do try. They serve 4 sauces which are delectable. I went in for a repeat, they are so good and the service is good too. And how can I forget the vegetable pickles served along, they are amazing too. Highly recommend this place for food, ambience and service however I have one feedback to share, your menu is very confusing and not at all friendly. You should explain the food with the names. I have been to your place but I guess on my second visit, I will still not be able to order food just based on your menu. I hope you get what I mean. For you, it's common to know the terms, for others it isn't. The options are also not clearly mentioned in the menu. So deducting 1* just for the menu. *Pics and the bill attached for your reference.

Update: Visited again Ordered tacos, kids burrito, corn chowder soup, beer and enchiladas. Didn't like the food this visit especially tacos and enchiladas hence deducting the stars. Enchiladas were disappointing. They weren't good at all. Too sour to begin with, less chicken etc etc. They were $23 and let me tell you they are just not worth your money in my opinion, so avoid it. The Beef Burrito I had from here was a sad and disappointing experience. I don't usually give negative reviews unless a business has monumentally screwed up but having eaten from other Mexican restaurants in Kelowna such as Latin Fiesta and Hector's Casa - they make El Taquero look like child's play by comparison. As a professional cook, I simply can't condone this establishment.

My burrito was a soggy, poorly wrapped mix of tasteless beef brisket, shredded lettuce, what I assume was pico de gallo and my personal favorite, an overload of flavorless black beans. The combination of ingredients had no trace of Mexican flavors and instead embodied the efforts of someone's first time making a burrito with no culinary background.

The burrito was served with rice on the side, which seemed to have the most flavor out of everything else that came with the dish, although it still didn't quite hit the spot for me. That also might've had something to do with the uncooked grains of rice mixed throughout and slowly chipping away at my teeth with every bite. I ate a small amount before I gave up.

Now this is the only item I have tried off the menu so I can't say whether or not the rest of the food is like this but looking at the images online of the food from El Taquero, it would appear that this experience would likely be recurring for me.

I'm not trying to personally attack the staff or management of this place. The service was friendly, warm and inviting. Despite that though, the food itself was not an enjoyable experience for me. I really would've loved to have seen more Mexican flavors in the brisket and would have much rather preferred refried beans in the burrito as opposed to just an unnecessary amount of plain whole black beans. Overall it felt like it was just lacking in everything I was craving from a Mexican restaurant.

For an $11 burrito, this will likely be my one and only time visiting this...

We decided to combat the cold by going out for Mexican food at El Taquero - and it was every bit as delicious as the Tacos off the Street in Sayulita - and also very reasonably priced! 5 Assorted Street Tacos for $20 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
