I have eaten at Curious a few times without any hiccups - food and service are usually pretty good. My last visit was I March and I will likely never go back because of it.
Service: Horrible from start to finish.
I had made a reservation for two people and upon arrival we were not greeted and stood by the door waiting for someone to acknowledge us - I finally had to finally wave someone down to seat us. When I told them we had a reservation the server seemed confused and then mentioned there were not many reservations that evening and that they would clear a table for us. The reserved table was right on the edge beside the bar near the bathrooms.
Once seated we sat for nearly 15 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order, which took another 15 minutes to get to us. We ordered our food and when it arrived everything seemed to be in order, however the server never asked us if we wanted more drinks and we have to flag down support staff to fill our order.
The Food: Could be better! The crab cakes were fantastic, and I wish that was all we had ordered. The pizza we chose was the Goatgonzola, which was good except there was no goatgonzola. The only thing that resembled cheese on the pizza were a few small, hard chunks sparsely scattered on the pizza. We had both eaten 1.5 slices when we finally realized there was no cheese. When I addressed this with the server she offered to take the pizza back and add more cheese. I assumed this meant that she was remaking it, but when she returned the was cold hard crumbles of dried up goatgonzola cheese. Horrible!
The complete the evening the server, whom we had barely seen all evening, was taking our payments. I was paying with card but my friend was paying cash. The server asked her how much change she would like and my friend just asked her to bring Her the rest of the change. The server then proceeded to offer what she thought was an appropriate amount for her to bring back. My friend was confused and didn’t want to be rude, but was trying to politely ask the server to just bring her change back. The server was still trying to offer numbers “so do you want $20 back? That seems like a good amount..”. Finally I had to step in and ask her to bring everything back so my friend can decide on gratuity from there. Wow.
I’m sure it was probably an off night for the kitchen, because I’ve always enjoyed the food. However, the service is what will keep me...
Read moreWent twice - once for weekend brunch in August, once for dinner late September. Brunch had only 3 or 4 options. I love a fancy breakfast and presentation wise it was beautiful, but thank goodness there were lots of potatoes otherwise I'd have left hungry on an egg benny breakfast. There was no meat, but it mentioned goat cheese and that was more of a saucey garnish to decorate the plate. The homemade English muffins were the size of 2 twoonies and the poached eggs were bigger than them so there was no bread to stop up the yolk or sauce. Plus they tasted more like soda bread. For $20 I expect more, especially without meat. Decided to give it another shot for appies before a concert, they didnt have calamari, which was the only true appie, so we had truffle fries, hummus and mac & cheese. Fries were delicious. Hummus was good if you like cumin, but came with crisps that broke as soon as we dipped them. We ended up eating hummus by the spoon and balancing the cracker on it. The mac and cheese was liquidy and runny and they forgot to put the bacon in it. My friends also tried to order the pina colada and they didn't have that either. All around fail. Disappointed in both experiences and likely wont go back unless it's to try their pizza. It looked good and there are few places in town to get brick oven pizza with decent ambiance. Not excited to spend my money there again though, so will probably not. I was excited when they reopened to give it a try, but the creativity of the menu descriptions are...
Read moreMy daughter and I went for brunch at around 11:15 am. It wasn’t very busy, but we were not greeted until the bartender noticed us. We seated ourselves on the patio. After a long spell, the waitress came and gave us water and menus. A while after that, she took our order. We ordered two classic breakfasts, an iced coffee and a cafe macchiato. The iced coffee came, the macchiato was forgotten. A very long time later, our breakfasts arrived. The waitress scurried away without checking to make sure we had everything. We didn’t. No bacon (part of the order), no salt and pepper, no hot sauce as requested. We sat waiting for the waitress to reappear, but that was at least 10 minutes later. Still no macchiato. Apparently, they had to do a run for coffee beans? After we finished most of our breakfast, the bacon and macchiato arrived and the bacon was charcoaled, so inedible. The salad was not fresh and the lettuce was spoiled. The waitress during this entire time did not greet, did not ask how everything was, and did not offer any apologies for the wait and inattentive service. We waited for a long time for our bill and finally walked up to the till to pay. The waitress practically threw the bill at me and did not look at us once. This used to be a nice place to go, but I will not waste my money here again and suggest that there are many other places where you can get a nice breakfast and be treated as...
