Had my birthday here, I've only heard amazing things. We had 10 people at the teppanyaki booked and showed up early, they had us sit in an area and it was a cool vibe for us to chill, talk, and drink. Our teppanyaki dinner was amazing. Joseph was the best, he was so funny, kept us going the whole night, and the food was deadly. It was my birthday so I decided to splurge and try the wagyu steak. First we realized things were mixed up when there was only 4 out of 5 lobsters brought out, then the one person that ordered shrimp as the main protein literally got nothing to eat as the main. We started to realize there was mix ups. The meal ended up great, everyone ended up with what we wanted but we were reassured that everything would be fibe. Then we got our bill. That's where everything went south. Initially when ordering I literally pointed at the menu for the wagyu where it said $40 something more on top of the $60ish for the steak to upgrade to wagyu. All good, I was down. At the end of the night, they charged me $200 for the steak saying I ordered the "Kasai special". I don't eat seafood, there is no way that I'd ever even consider the special that is essentially all seafood plus the steak. In the end, after discussing the bill with the server, the owner asked if everything was resolved, my wife said "no it was not", and the owner just walked away. I know my group probably spent a couple grand in few hours and the fact that they wouldn't own up to a mistake like this over $100 makes me not want to ever come back. It sucks because I was impressed with the food and Joseph tenfold. EDIT My wife contacted the restaurant the next day and spoke with the owner. They sorted out the bills, and they gave us a refund and a gift card. It was very appreciated. I understand mixups happen. It would have been nice to just have the bills sorted the night of but in the end it worked out. My only other critique would be that if there is a change in price or an item on the menu that isn't available then the server needs to make that known right at the start. I'll be giving Kasai...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe usually love coming here with friends and family and regularly spend $100+ per person for the teppenyaki experience. A huge part of teppenyaki is service, and unfortunately tonight our service was very poor.
Our chef, Walter, was very distant, cold, strict and borderline-rude. I don't know if this was just a bad day for him, but things weren't great. He started the evening off by reprimanding and lecturing my friend (who is very skilled with chopsticks) who was making a personal joke to me about using chopsticks poorly. This left things pretty awkward and tense for the rest of the evening. He also embarassed several members of the group by tossing fork/knife sets to them when they showed the slightest hint of struggling with chopsticks. This was not in the usual teppenyaki playful/teasing manner. It was done very coldly and seriously. They did not ask and they wanted to learn and work on their chopstick skills, but having the chef insist you give up and use a different utensil feels too far and very rude. To be clear, we're a very easy-going group that was there to have fun, but Walter's actions definitely killed a lot of the vibe.
When making a reservation, I was asked if we were celebrating anything. We were a large group and 2 of our friends were having birthdays, so I informed them of that. We've seen others celebrating birthdays here and they usually get a slightly nicer dessert or a bit of extra interaction with the chef to make things special and fun for them. That didn't happen for us. I don't want to imply that we expected any special treatment, we definitely did not. But... why ask when making the reservation? That kind of sets the expectation.
These may seem like small details, but when spending $100+ per guest, it makes a huge difference. Unfortunately I think we'll have to look for other places to dine...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis restaurant is by far my Top pick for 2021 so far! The wife and myself decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner so we Googled #1 restaurant pics in Kelowna. Kasai was top of the list so we called to make a reservation. 5 PM the next evening we were in our grill side seats , drinks in hand, waiting for our chef to make his entrance. Paige was our server and was as wonderful as expected ! Walter, our chef arived and after a short introduction and explanation of sauces and courses he began to show us his mastery of knife skills and culinary excellence. We decided to share the seafood dinner and add a beautiful piece of Filet mignon to our course. It was a 6 course meal, starting with lovely large shrimp perfectly cooked. Next came the vegetables. There was imported Chinese oyster mushrooms , bok choy, onions, and broccoli. Once all perfectly grilled he flipped pieces to each customer and we caught them in our mouths! So much fun. Rice came next. He did some amazing things with eggs and rice! The main course was simply divine! Lobster tails and scallops cooked to perfection! The added filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender. We ended the meal with exquisite icecream of your choice!.
I left out a few things not to spoil your experience if you go š
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a great dinner and show. It is something you won't forget. But also they have a full dine in experience as well with a full menu including some of the best sushi in town.
