So I wish I could give some things 4 stars and some things 3 stars and some things 2 stars - but the Google rating system has its limits! Lol. Here's my thoughts on a take out order we picked up a few days ago. The good (4 stars) were the traditional tacos - done in soft corn (or flour - we got corn) tortillas. We had the steak and the fish tacos, 2 of each. Good flavors in both, nice crunchy greens and onions, the caramelized pineapple was a good touch in the fish tacos...not too sweet. The chipotle sauce we got was also a real high point - super smoky and tangy and just darn delicious! It would be nice if they doubled up on the tortillas the way I've experienced in other Mexican places...and from taco carts in Mexico...it keeps all the yummy juices from turning your taco from finger food into a knife and forker!
The okay (3 stars) was 'The Bomb' burrito. We found it too one note in flavor and texture - almost sweet in a way, mostly because of the creamed 'street corn' included in it. There was no texture other than kind of soft and mushy. But it was a really HUGE portion for the price.
Then there was the 2 star stuff...the two salsas we had were nothing special. The green one was very oily, a layer of oil had settled on top by the time we got home and even mixing it well didn't get rid of an overwhelming oily taste and feel. The Pico de Gallo was...sadโน In a pico I expect tangy, cilantro-y, oniony freshness...in this one I got tomatoes in tomato water that were completely flavorless. A steak quesadilla suffered from the same issues as the burrito only more so...not much for flavor other than the almost 'mac and cheesy' taste of the street corn. And not much for texture - it needed longer on the grill to get the flour tortilla crispy...I had a couple bites and just left it at that!
I would go back for the soft tacos and the chipotle sauce, and maybe to try some of the more traditional mexican offerings - tamales, tostadas... I can't personally recommend the more 'tex-mex' offerings we tried - there are better versions of those on offer elsewhere imho... 4 stars + 3 stars + 2 stars= 9 stars divided by 3 dishes= 3...
ย ย ย Read moreWe were really looking forward to trying this place after reading the reviews. Our first visit was on Dec 4th, the food was tasty and the service was good.
We enjoyed the food so much we decided to get takeout again on Dec 11th. We ordered pretty much the same food as the previous week.
I ordered a chicken bowl on both visits, it comes with tortilla strips, cilantro, crumbled feta, crema, pico de Gallo, and corn along with chicken, rice and beans. The bowl I got on our Dec 11th visit had none of that, it was rice, beans, chicken, a small amount of some type of sauce and tons of corn in it. Honestly all you could taste was the corn, there was so much of it and the bowl was very dry. We had also ordered another kids meal for one of our children and instead of a burrito, we got a taco. No big deal we wrapped it up like a burrito, but it was supposed to come with rice and beans and those were missing. It only had chicken and a sauce and a huge amount of corn in it.
My husband had got the nachos and found them ok, not as good as the previous weeks and he also had too much corn in his food. He also mentioned the difference in customer service versus the previous week. On our Dec 11th visit, the female employee didnโt seem to know what went into each dish and kept on turning around to look at something, and took a long time to make the food. We had also asked for some guacamole (we paid extra for this) and didnโt get all that we had requested.
We were really disappointed in the food and I thought I would contact the restaurant directly (via email) to resolve this before leaving a negative review. I emailed them on Dec 12th and got a generic response saying they will discuss this with the owner and get back to me. Today is Jan 9th/22, I have not heard...
ย ย ย Read moreFood was ok but service was horrible. We were over charged for an item we didnโt order. We werenโt shown the bill, the staff just gave us the machine to pay. After we paid, we asked to check the bill and we realize there was an extra item on the bill that we didnโt order. We asked for a refund for that item ($7.75 + tax and tips). I was surrounded by 3 staff who tried to โhelpโ me with the situation. I was told they had to give us the refund in cash - which was fine. But they insist they would only refund us for the cost of the item on the menu $7.75 - which does not include taxes and tip. They seem to have a hard time understanding why I shouldnโt be paying for taxes and tips for an item I didnโt pay for, and that Iโm being unreasonable for asking for my money back. One of them said to me, โyou need to understand they are in trainingโ. Being in training is not an excuse for offering bad service, making mistakes are ok but mistakes still have to be fixed. After interrogating me for 10 minutes, they finally agreed to refund me the full amount of the over charged item - the refund was for $9.20. The staff gave me a $5 bill and the rest in quarters. WOW, Iโm sorry you had to do this to satisfy your ego. I wish we asked for a refund for the tips of the...
