Saw this restaurant 's commercial on Chinese TV, and the wife wants to try it. I looked up some Yelp reviews, and they looked decent. So we went tonight with High Expectations! Big Expectations ,Big Disappointments! The Good: The restaurant is clean. Lots of parking space at the strip mall. The decor is pleasant. I like the bamboo Wife ordered their famousEggplant Dolsot $18. She likes the eggplant.
The Bad: I ordered the Spicy pork dolsot. It was so sweet, I couldn't eat it. It was like eating a lump of sugar. The rice was sticky. I like Chinese sticky rice but not in a stone bowl.. I forced myself to eat a few spoonfuls and had to stop before I threw up. The small bowl of seaweed soup that came with the dinner was Luke warm and tasted fishy! I like steamy hot soup. When a soup is served, I like to see the steam coming out of the soup. The 3 side dishes that came with the meal were also subpar. One white cabbage slices was doused with sweet mayo. Couldn't eat it. The other 2 kimchi types were also not my cup of tea. I have been to many Korean restaurants, and this is the worst! Don't get me wrong about sweets, I love ice cream, milk chocolate, all kinds of cookies, as long as they are not too sweet. As a matter of fact, I find most western deserts too sweet for my taste buds. I prefer Asian deserts that are not too sweet. Probably only contain 50% sugar as compared with western deserts. I particularly can't stand sugar in my food. We don't add sugar in any of our food at home. The waitress offered 5% discount if you pay cash. We did. Would I go back? What do you think?
I took the uneaten Dolsot home. Added a cup of plain white rice, 2 scrambled eggs, one Chinese sausage, and stirred fried into a fried rice to salvage it. I didn't want to throw it in the garbage. I didn't add any salt or spices, and rice was still too sweet. I had to sprinkle some sea salt and salted peanuts on it to neutralize the sweet, spicy pork/rice. My final creation was 10...
Read moreWe’ve been here twice, and both times we ordered the eggplant dolsot bibimbap. It is a MUST TRY! It is so good and well-flavoured. I’m not the biggest fan of eggplant, but it just tastes sooo delicious. The first time, we tried the hangover soup and mung bean pancake since we’ve never had either before. The hangover soup was good but it was a lot, and I got a little bored of it after awhile. The mung bean pancake was also good and interesting. I personally liked it, but my partner wasn’t the biggest fan. It had 4 pieces, so it might be better to share with more people. The second time, in addition to the eggplant dolsot, we tried the seafood pancake and spicy squid dolsot. The seafood pancake was good but big for two people. It had a lot of seafood like shrimp, squid, and maybe pollock. The spicy squid dolsot wasn’t as spicy/flavourful as we expected. I think the veggies neutralized it a bit. The spicy squid also looked a little different from the image. It was still good though. We ended up taking the pancake and spicy squid dolsot home since it was too much. Overall, I’d give this place a 4.5 if I could. We’d definitely go back to try more things. Also! Something to note, even though the restaurant closes at 8:15pm, it just changes to a bar called Feel90. We were still allowed to chat and eat without rush, but the menu changed and we were informed that the kitchen changed at that time....
Read moreI had a bad experience in this Korean restaurant this evening. I went there with my friend, we go there very often, we were allocated to a nice table by the window. Then we ordered our food. Food came fast and was good. The only service the servers did was to bring us tea and our dishes, nothing more than that. But it's OK, after all it's a busy restaurant and we're here for food . Everything went well. When we finished, we didn't check out, we were talking for a while. Then the old Korean lady kicked us out, because they need the table for other people. I get it, but there were other tables available, I don't understand why they were doing that in a rude way. Then we went to the counter to pay, we were told that they don't do separate bills. Fine. Then my friend tap his card without tipping. The cashier (another old Korean lady ) asked my friend why he didn't tip. My friend and I were so mad, he went we are kicked out by your server, now you're expecting tips? The cashier was unhappy and didn't apologize at all, she tried to denfse herself. I said that's fine, let's get out of here. They should know tips is optional, you can't expect any tips if you just bring the customers food and kick them out after they finish. This is outrageous! I'm not coming back!!! They can't do a proper customer service, and they want you to tip them. Who do they...
