Unfortunately, I decided to try this restaurant due to its convenient location — a decision I deeply regret. I wish I could say only one thing went wrong, but the entire experience was unpleasant, though surprisingly, the food itself wasn’t the problem. The real issue was the service and management.
Dinner began with a bit of a language barrier, as a trainee took our orders. The owner came over to explain and apologize, which we appreciated, and we remained open-minded.
First, when I asked for a wine list, the server didn’t understand and instead brought over 3 or 4 physical wine bottles for me to choose from. We selected one and moved on. Before placing our order, I confirmed with another waitress that I could substitute the pasta that comes with the chicken parmesan, and she assured me it would be no problem. We also ordered a pizza as a shared appetizer, and I confirmed again that it would be brought out before the main course.
However, when the food arrived, our main courses came out first — no sign of the pizza. I immediately asked about it, and the server apologized, admitting she forgot. Then, instead of substituting the pasta as I requested, they brought both the original pasta and an additional pasta I had asked for. When I addressed this, they apologized again and took the plates back — but rather than preparing them properly, they simply replated the same food, resulting in cold dishes with mixed pastas and combined sauces.
We ate what we could and finished the meal. At that point, I told the staff not to bother bringing the pizza anymore, as it was now too late — it would have come as a dessert. Then things got worse. A waitress, visibly upset and crying, came to our table begging us to pay for the pizza anyway, saying the owner would force her to cover the cost herself. She genuinely seemed scared, and by then, I was beyond frustrated.
To make matters worse, the owner was nowhere to be found when it came time to resolve these issues. Reviewing the bill, I noticed we were charged for a salad we never ordered, and the pasta I asked to substitute was charged as an extra full meal — meaning I was billed for two meals but only received one. The pizza we received in a box to go was also charged.
Despite all this, we were forced to pay the full bill. To top it off, we were a party of four and were automatically charged gratuity without being told — effectively doubling the tip, even after such poor service.
I’m deeply disappointed in the management for failing to step in and rectify the situation. Having a server cry to guilt us, charging us for items we didn’t receive, and misleading us into tipping more is unacceptable. I understand that people make mistakes and need time to learn, which is why I place most of the blame on the management for not taking responsibility.
Sadly, it was an extremely...
Read moreMy family and I went to MiM restaurant in Thornhill to celebrate an anniversary. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 6:30. A young, inexperienced server sat us at our table and asked if we would like water. So far, so good. She brought the water to our table. Bottled water. She hadn’t mentioned the water was bottled or that we would be charged for it. We were told to scan the barcode on the table to see the menu. We had a few people in our party who prefer paper menu’s, but that was not an option. After ordering, we waited over an hour to receive our food. Our server did not let us know there would be a delay or offer any type of bread and butter, garlic bread, or anything similar. Being what we thought was an Italian restaurant, we found this odd. My husband finally asked our server if we could order bread and she said she didn’t know, but would ask. Strange, but OK. It turns out the only bread they have available is pita. We declined. When our food finally came, we were disappointed. Three people in our party ordered pizza. The quality was that of a frozen supermarket pizza. For $25, it’s a rip off. 2 others enjoyed their pasta. I had lasagna which was “meh.” The server didn’t come to check on us one time, or clear away any dishes. Like I said earlier, the restaurant was empty, literally empty. When presented with the cheque, we noticed that a $28 service charge had been added. When questioned about it, we were told it was a fee for having made a reservation. We argued about it because it wasn’t made clear to us that making a reservation would cost $28. If I had known this I would have chosen another restaurant. The charge was removed when we told the manager we would just take it off the tip. The meal, with tip, was just over $200 for 6 people. No bread, appetizers, wine or dessert. We didn’t enjoy it and we won’t...
Read moreThe good: I enjoyed the service and the music. On the surface, they seem welcoming to technology users with ample outlets, and food is fairly priced.
I was disappointed by the cafe selections; while the coffee is fine, the snacks are limited. (UPDATE: I was initially informed that they have a policy against serving tap water; I've since learned that the water policy is not enforced at this time and that it was likely the result of a training communication issue). I also found the pastry I ordered to be stale.
Overall I think this could be a solid location for dinner food and see good potential in the late night atmosphere, or for someone seeking an afternoon meetup over Hookah. However this place also bills itself as a breakfast lounge with coffee and cafe standards, which seems narrow. I enjoyed my double-shot latte, but the pastry seemed a little stale; come for the coffee, and enjoy the booth seating, but at its heart, this is more of a late-lunch/restaurant-lounge.
I'd like to come back to try dinner and perhaps inviting friends to try out some of the hookah flavours on offer. After the manager spoke with me and resolved the water-miscommunication, I feel like this would make good destination Hookah spot with friends, and a space that offers a more cozy atmosphere for people living in the surrounding communities, or for people visiting and seeking a unique place to check out as an alternative to food court.
I initially rated this a 3/5, but after speaking with the manager and the waitress, I'm happy to consider a...
