Sushi Hon — Restaurant in Markham

I had high hopes for this place and only ordered from here because of the 5-star rating but I was extremely disappointed. I went during lunch time to pick up my order and they were extremely busy. I had to wait an additional 10 mins on top of the estimated time for my order. When I was waiting, I saw them “cooking” the edamame in the microwave with plastic wrap on top of the bowl (not impressed). I ordered Dynamite Roll, California Roll, Beef Teriyaki with Rice and Edamame (for 2 people). All the food was placed in plastic containers (the ones that you get when you order cold salads from Longos or Yummy Market) I don’t think high temperature foods are supposed to be kept in them. As for the taste, I don’t see what the type is about it wasn’t that good to be honest. The shrimp in my sushi was under cooked. The beef teriyaki was sooo oily to the point you get that icky feeling. I felt so gross I couldn’t finish the food. I don’t take the time to put detailed bad reviews but seriously I was so pissed. Definitely didn’t get them on a good day....

Came to Sushi Hon after seeing all the five star reviews and being a fan of the previous sushi spot that operated there. Overall, the prices looked relatively standard for a sushi spot in this area, but the food quality wasn't as good. We got the sushi and roll platter #1. The fish was inconsistent, some tasted fresh (salmon) while others tasted off (shrimp, snapper and tuna). The rolls were good, but simple and not as decorated by fish eggs/roe as some other more prominent chains (though these spots are pricier). They did offer a green salad on the house, which was really sweet. Soy sauce came in a small plastic sauce cup, no packets. Good more sustainable packaging (no black plastics). The service was punctual and kind! Overall it's a decent takeout spot, but not anything super special that would make me highly recommend it as a must try. Would not dine in as it is quite small, but some might...

If you have late evening/ night sushi cravings do yourself a favour and come here. I came to sushi hon not expecting much, the prices were low and it was a small store so my reasoning was solid, but boy was I proven wrong. I got 33 pieces of sushi for less than 33$, I felt like I was stealing so I tipped pretty nicely and it came out to around a buck per piece. Still, I got it for take out and didn’t open it until I got home so I thought to myself; I hope they don’t skimp out on the meat. When I got home I realized how wrong my thoughts were, all the sushi were filled generously with meat and other fillings, more importantly everything was super tasty too. I have no doubt that I’ll come again and try their other rolls, but to whoever is reading this give this place a shot and you won’t regret it.
