Sometimes, you stumble upon a dish that feels like home, even if it’s from a place you’ve never been. That was tahchin for me: golden-crusted, tender rice layered with herbs, lentils, or meats, each bite rich with saffron and care. And if there’s one place that knows how to do it right, it’s Tahchin Bar.
Originally from Iran, this spot has now found a second home in Canada. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warmth of tradition wrapped in a modern setting with sleek tables, soft lighting, and the unmistakable aroma of toasted rice and spices drifting from the kitchen.
We started with small plates: Mast O Musir (a creamy yogurt-shallot dip) and Kashkeh Bademjan (eggplant purée with herbs and whey) — both comforting, both impossible to stop scooping.
Then came the real event. The Adas Polo Tahchin was soft, warmly spiced, with lentils and raisins folded through the fragrant rice. The Baghali Polo Tahchin was its herbal counterpart, packed with dill and broad beans, every spoonful textured with that crispy tahdig layer. This is the kind of food that tells a story of time, of memory, of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen.

To begin with, they lie to their customers about when the food will be ready. They told me my food will be ready in 45 minutes. I ended up having to wait 1 hour and 45 minutes for my food. This is unacceptable, especially in such a busy area. I understand if the food took 5-10 more minutes to prepare than what they said, but 1 hour later???? This is wrong. They kept telling me my food will be ready in 3-4 minutes and wasted 1 hour and 45 minutes like that.
Secondly, their quality of food is mediocre at best with extremely high prices and they get their orders wrong. One of my orders was a chicken tahchin and they gave me gheimeh tahchin which is not even remotely close. Their makaroni tahchin tastes like dog food at best.
Finally, their staff were very rude and unhelpful. They were extremely understaffed for the amount of orders that they had. Really disappointed. Please avoid this place...
