The chicken on the rocks and schwarma were absolutely fantastic on my first visits back just before Christmas of '16. Authentic Eqyptian fare and the owner even adds the sumac as an extra dash of flavour. (No sumac and you start to wonder how "middle Eastern" your food really is, dig what I'm sayin'?) Five outta five had I written a review THEN. I struck it up with the owner and gosh was I impressed. Which brings us to 2017.... Milton is a funny town when it comes to dining as the whole town shuts down by six o'clock pm to attend to kids and beddy-boo. So in every visit, I'm the only patron in the restaurant just picking up some take-out after a day's drudgery. It seems that the portions get skimpier in proportion to the foot traffic. Indeed another reviewer recently mentioned that consistency is in question at this restaurant. (Either the meals to go are smaller in size or the owner splurged on larger styrofoam containers?) Both the wife and I absolutely craved the goodies from HAG but this year we noticed that the food is just as tasty as ever but the owner is, ah, "a little heavy with the thumb on the scale", shall we say? Dodgy parking where it is easier to park across the street at the strip mall featuring a Shoppers Drug Mart such that the wind whipping off the escarpment make your pants flutter like a flag in the wind. Those laminated menus could use a wiping as they're on the verge of becoming wallpaper in stickiness. Minus one for the sticky menus and another minus one for the Jenny Craig'ing of portions. That 30-cent surcharge for Interac payment is also a tad irksome as I've yet to encounter it elsewhere in Milton. We all hate the greedy banks but whom do I pass the expense of MY fees onto? Let's hope things turn around for this place as older reviews had this establishment brimming with a solid reputation. What is...
Read moreWajih’s Steakhouse is a local, no-frills spot that feels more like a shawarma place than a traditional steakhouse (which makes sense since they serve shawarma too).
We visited on a Thursday evening and the place was pretty empty, but the owner was kind and offered helpful recommendations on what to try.
We ordered the chicken shawarma plate and the steak with mushroom sauce. The shawarma plate was made with high quality ingredients and had a slight edge over the usual takeout spots, but it didn’t stand out in any major way - it was decent, just not unique.
The steak was well-cooked, and the mushroom sauce was delicious. The overall flavour had a very homemade feel—less of a restaurant-style experience, but still thoroughly enjoyable. Also, the caesar salad that was a side to the steak was the perfect compliment to both of our dishes and was very creamy and fresh!
That said, we did find the price of the steak in particular a bit high given the lack of ambiance. If you’re looking for a casual bite and friendly service, it’s worth a try—but don’t expect your typical...
Read moreWe order from Hood and Grill all the time. We used to go in and pick it up. My friend behind the counter is a man sent from heaven when our daughter was diagnosed with cancer he listened to my fears, and consoled me. Then he offered me and the family a free in house dinner so he could visit with us while we enjoyed his cooking.
We usually get chicken on the rocks and two of the freshest salads in the country. Tonight we ordered delivery and again perfection, perfect dinner perfect salad, a few places could learn something from this man about freshness. Tonight i finished my whole dinner most nights i cant finish it, there's so much.
This man is a credit to Milton, and our community. Definitely go and...
