Edit: Owner called me to apologize for the situation. I provided my feedback and made suggestions in how to prevent this from occurring again to someone else. New resto with growing pains. Fingers crossed they make improvements.
It was unfortunate as the food was more than decent. Here is the service review. I'm going to preface this review by ensuring you know that I booked my reservation, saying this meal was for a small birthday celebration. I also told Kaylee our waitress it was my friend's birthday right in the beginning as she was talking about the menu. Overall service was decent, yes it was a busy night and the tables were full. I was initially impressed with Kaylee's communication on timing of how long it would take for drinks and when the food would come out. In the middle of the meal is when the attentiveness started to change. Which was fine. But what I didn't like was at the end when we were told that someone was going to come take our dessert order and no one came, then Kaylee said she would take it twice and then told us she was being pressured for us to leave as we had been there to long. At this point it was just over 1hr and 15mins. First off, if someone had told us we were under a shot clock to eat, that would have been nice and we would have happily complied. Secondly, we had ordered the premium experience platter and the courses came out staggered, in other words the timing wasn't an issue on our end as we didn't get to even order our desserts. Thirdly, they missed two dishes at the end that we never got, the rice and smoked corn. We didn't notice this until after we left and talked about how the meal went. The worst part about this is that our waitress came to me with the bill to pay before she even brought out the desserts. I didn't think anything of it, paid and gave a tip. Then she insisted we take our 3 desserts to go as she had them already in a container for us to leave. As I previously mentioned, this was for a close friend of mines birthday. I wasn't expecting anything free, all I wanted was a simple plate with a cheese cake that we paid for in the "premium experience" so that I could take a photo for her. That didn't happen. This was far from a "premium experience". I paid $265 for 3 people. Not worth this "experience". When I asked to speak to the manager, they sent me another waitress that was serving tables at the same time as our waitress. It was clear that the lady in the grey sweater who was providing directions to everyone that she didn't want to speak to me. So I calmly explained the situation to the so called "new manager" - Victoria. This was also apparently her first day as a manager. This was very disappointing. Only after I asked to speak to someone higher did they give me the cell number to the so called regional manager named Feras AbuErrub.
What a pity as the bbq was actually decent. We had great variety and more than enough that we were stuffed.
Here is the food review. We had the brisket, which was dry, salty and tough at parts. The lamb shank was very tender and delish. My wife loved this the most. I enjoyed the beef ribs as they were fall off the bone and had lots of flavor. The slider was good and the perfect sized bite to sample. The wings were crispy but overly salty. The sides, of the ones we got, Mac n Cheese was ok, different and more plain compared to other reviewers photos. Corn bread was delish. Also came with Caesar salad, Cole slaw and macaroni salad. All of which was just "ok". They missed giving us the rice and smoked corn and chimichurri sauce, which was what I previously was looking forward to but was caught up in our conversations to notice they were missing. Mashed potatoes was yummy, the garlic bread and regular bread along with the 3 fingerling potatoes were clearly just filler. Twix milkshake was so good! Wished they had their...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews on places I've dined at, however, The Backyard Smokehouse has left me very disappointed. My partner and I had gone here after reading plenty of reviews and seeing tiktoks about this place and decided to give it a shot.
To begin: After we were seated and reviewed our menu, our waitress came over to take our orders. We ordered the brisket mac n cheese, the signature backyard burger, sliders and the pulled chicken burger. We were asked by our waitress what would we like to drink and we both said water.
We were only served water when the food came out (~20 minutes later). Even when we got served the water, the amount our waitress put in was not equal as I had half a cup and my partner's was almost to the rim!
Even after we finished our water, we had to ask for more although she walked past our table multiple times and there was an empty cup (We are both used to servers coming around and topping our water when they ask “how is the food?” which she came around to ask but in the end, we had to call her over to ask for more water).
The restaurant was busy and I do not think there should be only 1 wait staff, tending to 5 or more tables at a time (more than 1 person at a table, some tables had upwards to 4+ people!) I'm not sure what kind of training the staff went through but they seriously need more people! It's chaos in there.
The food was terrible. The mac and cheese tasted like Kraft dinner with a side of dry meat.
The sliders lacked sauce and seasoning.
The signature burger lacked seasoning and flavour.
The pulled chicken burger was mushy and falling apart.
I'm not sure if they taste the food before it comes out or before they put it on the menu but the lack of flavour and seasoning from a smokehouse is mind boggling. The food was overall very bland and not tasty. It seems like they try to save the food with the sauces they have in stock.
There was a male staff who came in shortly before we left who was a lot more attentive than the waitress who started us off. I seriously think the restaurant should have their staff go under a formal training, specifically on customer service in a restaurant as it lacked severely.
All in all, I wouldn't go back here or recommend anyone else go..I was happy to find a halal smokehouse, just minutes away from Square One but I would never go back. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions before spending...
Read moreWe initially visited The Backyard Smokehouse shortly after its opening a few years ago. Upon entering, we were struck by the rustic and inviting interior decor, complemented by eclectic art posters that added a playful touch to the ambiance. The menu's design was reminiscent of Renaissance art. Our group of five opted for the "Six Yard" platter, which came with an assortment of thoughtfully crafted sides. Notable standouts included the creamy mac and cheese, offering a comforting richness, and the crispy curly fries, providing a satisfying crunch. The Caesar salad provided a refreshing contrast, balancing the meal with its crispness and tangy dressing. Unfortunately, we failed to capture any photographs during our visit. (Cham). I recall being impressed by the array of sumptuous smoked meats, including tender beef brisket and succulent smoked chicken, presented on a large platter. The visual presentation was stunning. The generous serving was sufficient for four to five individuals. The mouthwatering cuts were infused with classic Southern BBQ flavors, with each bite serving as a testament to the authenticity and deliciousness of the BBQ. Alternative options include the "Three Yard" for 2-3 people and the "Nine Yard" for 7-8 people.
We recently made our second visit to this neighborhood restaurant for an early dinner. We ordered the backyard burgers and corn bread cake with ice cream, although we were somewhat disappointed with the dessert, as it was essentially a corn bread rather than a cake. Our meal arrived promptly, hot and fresh, particularly the French fries, which were freshly fried and piping hot. The burger was exceptionally tasty. The restaurant's ambiance is relaxed, making it an ideal venue for gatherings with family and friends. Our server was attentive and friendly. In summary, The Backyard Smokehouse provides a memorable BBQ experience, characterized by generous portions, expertly smoked meats, and well-executed sides. (Comments from few years ago).
