Stop waiting in line at Schwartz's Deli. Cross the street for the better sandwich...
Having lived in Berlin for several years and visited dozens of times, I am a self-proclaimed connoisseur of the world famous Berliner Döner Kebab. (See the screenshot of my Berliner Döner map.) Unfortunately, my home city of Washington, D.C. has nothing comparable. In fact, up and down the East Coast USA, one might stumble across a pretender or two but the result is always a disappointment.
This past weekend, upon arriving in Montréal, I was somehow willed by the culinary gods to search Google Maps for the keyword, "Kebab", and what do I find? The Berlin Döner Haus with a 4.8 Google rating!!! Like an addict needing his fix after a 12-month-long draught, I ate here three times in three days!!!
Anyone who is familiar with the Berlin version will feel at home here: two vertical spits of meat, one lamb and one chicken. The quality of the meat options here are far and away some of the highest quality, juiciest, tastiest I've ever eaten on a Döner! The homemade bread offers the perfect combination of crunchy outside, providing a sturdy foundation to the sandwich, while remaining soft on the inside. One side is bejeweled with sesame seeds and the final step of their preparation involves the heated sandwich press, giving the bread that lovely toasted flavor with those unmistakable "stripes" from the grill. As the pictures show, the assortment of condiments is just like what you'd find in your typical Dönerbude: iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, sauteed and raw onions, pickles, and the choice of two sauces: garlic and spicy garlic. Both sauces are great, but I preferred spicy garlic.
The important assembly procedure is also recognizable: the bread is cut, the requested condiments and sauces are applied, the meat is shaved from the spit upon ordering (with a knife, not electric), put on the bread, and then the whole beautiful thing is pressed in the sandwich grill.
For most of my life, I've lived with the philosophy that the further one travels away from Berlin, the worse the Döner Kebab tastes. This special place in Montréal changes everything. It's not only the best Döner I've eaten in North America, it also puts many in Berlin to shame. We are easily talking about a all-time TOP-5 Döner!!! Einfach köstlich!
If you too are suffering from a draught and need your fix: it is here in Montréal. Go and order a lamb version, or chicken version, or both! They are both delicious! You can't go wrong.
Finally, while you're there, enjoy the smiles of the extremely friendly (Turkish) staff, and be sure to order the Pómmes (French fries). The Frites are also delicious.
Close your eyes, enjoy, and be transported back to your favorite Berlin nights. Except, this Döner will taste even better!
Guten Appetit! Lass Dich...
Read moreBerlin Haus is an absolute delight for anyone who loves Turkish cuisine! This hidden gem perfectly captures the authentic flavors and vibrant atmosphere you'd find in Berlin. From the moment I walked in, the warm hospitality and cozy ambiance made me feel right at home.
I started my meal with the manti, which were little dumplings filled with seasoned meat and topped with a rich, tangy yogurt sauce. They were absolutely delicious and a perfect start to the meal. Next, I tried the kibleh, a wonderfully spiced pastry that was both crispy and savory.
For the main course, I couldn’t resist the Berlin-style doner sandwich. The meat was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy, just as it should be. It was served in a soft, fresh bread with all the right toppings. Each bite transported me straight to the bustling streets of Berlin.
To top it all off, I enjoyed a glass of Efes Raki, a traditional Turkish alcohol. It was the perfect accompaniment to the meal, adding a unique and authentic touch to the overall experience.
The attention to detail and commitment to quality at Berlin Station is truly impressive. Every dish tasted like it was made with the freshest ingredients and a lot of love. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the high quality of the food.
The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations and ensuring my dining experience was top-notch.
Montreal has been in need of a truly great Turkish restaurant, and Berlin Haus fills that void perfectly. It certainly deserves a full 5 stars. The quality of the food, the exceptional service, and the overall dining experience are all outstanding. I highly recommend Berlin Station to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Turkish meal.
Thank you, Berlin Haus, for an unforgettable...

I have to say that @berlin_doner_haus is absolutely a smash hit for me when it come to turkish food. I first stumbled across this place late at night around 1 am, after a night of drinking and was having a lamb doner pita craving hard. It was out of this world. Super flavourful meat, amazing homemade pita stuffed with all the fixing. But I had to go back to see if it was really that good or if I was just drunk and needed some food in me 🤣
Fast forward a month and I'm back but this time I wanted to try a couple plates. First we have the lamb doner plate with all the sides. And it was just as good if not better this time then the first. Amazing flavour, jucy meat, awesome spices that are really different from your traditional middle eastern spot. My favorite tho was the Adana Kebab. I've had alot of kebabs in my day and honestly something about this one is probably in my top 3. I always like to recommend people to try every type of middle eastern food they can, they are not all the same. Syrians, do it differently then Turks, then Israelis then so on. There all a little different and unique in there own way. These guys are amazing, great fresh salads, the sauces are a must and the rice was buttery and delicious and I normally don't care for rice. Only other rice I go out of my way for is Persian style rice but this one was amazing!
So if you wanna go out for lunch or dinner or a late night bite after a night of drinking downtown , this is going to be...
