This is a staple on the Main for decades. This place has been producing some of the best ribs, rotisserie chicken, sausage, roasted potatoes as well as sides such as their amazing Cole slaws and salads. This is a restaurant that’s not about eating in with table service and such. It’s mostly about take out and having a quick bite at the stool counter while people line up to order food. The displays show enticing yummy food while you wait to be served and by the time it’s your time to order, you now want a little of everything! I have had everything here, but I have to say that one absolute MUST is their Nata pastry. These are made fresh and usually still warm in their display leaving the pastry crust light and flaky and the filling (an egg custard like filling) smooth and creamy. I doubt you can only eat one - I certainly can’t. So to the food. Ribs: large and meaty pork ribs are perfectly cooked and seasoned. Chicken: rotisserie is fantastic juicy and skin nicely crisp. Their chicken sandwich is near perfection for a simple light fluffy fresh bun filled with fresh chicken, allowing the chicken to be the star of the meal and it was fantastic. Roasted potatoes: perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly such that they are creamy inside and slightly crisp on the outside. Sausage: not overtly hot nor spicy, however as you begin to swallow you can feel a low warm heat develop and it’s just right. They are cooked well such that the casing is nice and snappy crisp. It’s a very densely packed sausage and very firm. Roasted lamb and pork: scrumptious.

As someone born and raised in Hong Kong, we've had so many Portuguese egg custard tarts (Pastel de nata) growing up. But of course the taste has been modified to fit East Asian taste buds. I always wanted to try the real Portuguese egg custard tarts. I'm glad I had the chance in Montreal. I heard that there's a few restaurants with good Portuguese grilled chicken and egg tarts. Rôtisserie Coco Rico is one of them. The staff are friendly and helpful. I got myself a half dozen of Pastel de nata. I especially love the easy-to-carry box. The tarts are well protected and I can just throw it in my bag without worrying about leakage or staining. The tarts are still in perfect shape when we're back to the hotel. I love these Pastel de nata from the first bite. It's slightly different from those I had in HK and Macau, and it's absolutely delicious! For reference only, here's the comparison: The puff pastry crust is more chewy (than crunchy). The tart is taller hence contains more custard. The custard has more texture in it and it's sweeter. I recommend Rôtisserie Coco Rico for people who want to try authentic Portuguese grilled chicken and egg custard tarts. Especially if you're gonna visit Schwartz's Deli. Rôtisserie Coco Rico is only a few steps away. One stone for two great restaurants. Why not?

We are food and people people- this place was so great! Travelers in Montreal (from Oregon, USA) we have been having the best interactions with people- but tonight was the tops. We accidently bumbled into Coco Rico - starving... and immediately got a great vibe. The staff taking orders and putting plates together were very happy and caring - taking the time to ask about all the choices that could help make a good meal perfect. The people in the restaurant were all happy to be together listening to music that was good to work, wait in line, or eat to. We listened to the man in front on us specify that he did not want his sandwiches spicy. When I ordered I joked that I learn from the experience of others and if the gentleman in front of us wanted to avoid spice I better follow suit. He immediately back peddled and explained he is sensitive and we might like the spicy...This began a whole conversation in which he explained he does not come to Coco Rico's often ...just six times in his last three visits to Montreal (he travels from Toronto on business and now has a bad rotisserie chicken habit!) His name was Alessandro and when it was our time to pay he had paid for our dinner (Thank you Alessandro!) We sat at the counter with the cash register behind us and facing a mirror. We could hear and watch the host - she was so fun and relaxed, engaging every customer personally and at their pace. Her charm was amazing. We lingered after eating (The chicken sandwich, the fries, the roasted potatoes, the roast pork, salads, and Pastel de Nata for dessert) our bellies thanking us for the amazing and plentiful feast. We thanked our host and found she shares our love of neighborhood, treating people well because it is a good thing, and an ideal that work is a place to be part of a family. We then found out that her family has owned the business for 50 years or so- and she appreciates the people running the restaurant with her and making the experience great for everyone (including the customers!). Thank you Marie Céus (I am sorry I did not get the name correct).

I will never tell people how great Montreal is without insisting the go to...

Dear Manager, (UPDATED REVIEW FOR 2021) I went to Coco Rico today (Sun, May 09, 2021 around 2-2:30pm) with my wife and ordered some chorizo and a jumbo potato.

I am a loyal customer of Coco-Rico since 2016. But, I was a bit disappointed with my experience today. You guys are allowing 4 customers in the store due to COVID19 which is completely acceptable. I entered with my wife (2) and there were another couple (2) waiting at the cash to pay. So, in total there were 4 customers inside the store. While we were discussing and finalizing our order, a lady from behind the counter with a strong French accent, asked my wife to step out of the store so that another customer can step in. My wife immediately stepped out.

So, here is my point. A decent customer will always try to be quick, make payment and step out. As we did not violate any rule pertaining to COVID19, we expect the staff to be patient and let the customer finish their order. The staff should rather not focus on the customer waiting outside. The person waiting outside can rather wait and ideally will only enter when the existing customer steps out (just like most stores).

I would expect that you would train the staff accordingly and allow your customers to at least decide on the order and not kick them out. We did finish our order in about 5-6 minutes. Everyone wants to follow the rules. But too much rush sometimes is a sign of insecurity and does not look good on the part of the business.

I hope you will read my review and pay attention to my point. Being a loyal customer, I felt like sharing my views as this never happened before. Anyone else could have taken this issue as a racial remark.

Thanks for your understanding.

PS: I recently visited them at Plateau again in Oct 2022 and got a very positive response from the Manager for which I will put a separate...
