I recently booked a spot at Cafe Moonday’s candle-making class ($39.95), and it turned out to be the perfect way to spend a rainy spring afternoon in Montreal. While the dreary weather outside could’ve easily made the day feel bleak, the warm, cozy atmosphere of the cafe immediately made me feel at ease. It was exactly what I needed to shake off the chill and try something new. Stay tuned for my video review on TikTok (@Foxy.appetite) and Instagram (@Foxyappetite)! The Class: The candle-making experience was wonderfully intimate and personalized. Each group had its own small table, making it an ideal choice for a date or a group of friends. This setup created a cozy, laid-back vibe that felt just right. The instructors were friendly and incredibly helpful, offering guidance when needed while giving us the freedom to experiment and craft our own unique candles. They walked us through the entire process step-by-step, from selecting up to three fragrance oils to blending them at the perfect temperature before pouring the wax into the jar. One of the things I really appreciated was that the instructors took care of heating the wax for us, so we could focus on the fun part—mixing our chosen scents. I had a blast experimenting with different combinations and ended up choosing clean cotton, magnolia, and grapefruit. The result? A beautiful candle with a fresh, balanced scent that felt truly personal, and it smells absolutely amazing. I decided to call it “Fresh Bloom.” Final Thoughts: Cafe Moonday’s candle-making class is an exceptional way to spend a few hours in Montreal, whether you’re a local or just visiting. It offers a creative and relaxing escape, where you can unwind while learning something new. If you’re looking for a fun, hands-on experience, I highly recommend this class. While waiting for our candles to cool, I enjoyed a delicious latte and a slice of banana bread, and the cafe even had games and puzzles to pass the time—an unexpected but charming touch! By the end of the class, I walked away not only with a beautifully crafted candle but also with a newfound appreciation for the art of candle-making. It was the perfect way to spend a peaceful, creative afternoon. Whether you’re looking to try something new or simply want to relax in a cozy setting, this class is a must-try in Montreal!

We were so excited to participate in this activity, but our feelings quickly changed after our experience. We arrived 1h30 before our reservation for two people and were okay with waiting and getting a coffee because of our early arrival. We saw that there were only TWO tables of four that were taken and SEVEN tables of two available, so we thought that maybe we could go. When we asked the girl working there, she said they were booked and that it would interfere with their schedule. We understood and ordered two drinks that were pretty good and stayed the entire time. NOT A SINGLE PERSON CAME. The girl had just lied because she wanted to keep chatting with her friends, and when it was finally our turn, we were seated and it took the girl 10 min to help us with the process. They asked to write our phone number and our address on the candle to be “able to find our candle within the others,” even though it was DEAD-they just wanted to SCAM us. When the rest of the girls’ friends came, they just sat there talking. After 1 hour 10 min of letting our candles dry, we asked them if it was ready, and they said it had made a hole and needed to wait 10 more minutes for it to be fixed. They gave the SAME reason to the other group that was there. In sum, it was a terrible experience due to the lack of service and help.

I have mixed feelings. It was a fun activity to do with some friends but I’m disappointed in the final product. For almost $50 i would expect a better quality candle. The wick burns too fast and ends up getting drowned by the melted wax. I have to keep removing wax with a paper towel to prevent it from going out completely. The scent is also not as strong (even with 3 scents). Food choice was extremely limited, by the time i got to the counter after getting stuck behind a huge group, everything i wanted was gone (around 1pm). All in all, expect to pay for the experience vs the final product. Choosing scents was the only fun part of the activity, everything else to make the candle took like, 15 mins max and then 45mins of wait time.

On déconseille...
