Monokrome Salon — Local services in Montreal

I visited this salon in August and was delighted by the results (Balayage by Katia and cut by Marek). However, I recently returned for an appointment for a trim with Marek. Despite making my appointment over the phone with explicitly asking for Marek, when I arrived I was told someone else would be cutting my hair - a new hairdresser who didn't work there in August. I was slightly upset by this but I figured it wouldn't make too much of a difference and so didn't say anything. Unfortunately, despite my attempts to be very assertive about what I wanted (only a trim, 1 inch off), the new hairdresser cut over 3 inches off and gave me a completely new haircut (a blunt bob, when I wanted to keep my hair medium length and feathered ends). I expressed that it was too short but she continued to shorten it and did not appear to be listening to what I wanted. As a result of making it so short, she also cut off a lot of the balayage that I paid for less than 3 months ago that I wanted to preserve. So, even after washing and styling it myself I am really disappointed with the result and don't feel like returning. It is a shame because I really liked the services that Katia and Marek...

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting this salon for the first time, and I must say, it was an experience worth sharing. Right from the moment I stepped in, the ambiance of the salon impressed me.

The staff was incredibly welcoming, offering me and my husband a beverage as we waited for my appointment. The wait was short, but the attention to detail in their customer service was clear. My stylist, Anabel, was fantastic. she listened to exactly what I wanted.

The haircut itself was impeccable. Anabel used a combination of techniques that seemed tailor-made for my hair texture, and the results were beyond my expectations. I appreciated the use of high-quality products that left my hair feeling fresh and styled without being overly stiff or sticky.

What really set here apart was the little touches – like the scalp massage during the wash.

I waited a few hours to calm down before reviewing. So the positives : The cut was well executed - except that it wasn't the cut that was discussed at all. The salon is nice; small and well located. They are friendly.

Sadly, I left very unhappy with a cut that is too short to put in any kind of updo to hide. Straight up a "soccer mum" cut which was precisely the words she used to explain what wanted to avoid... As did I. She took off way too much volume from the top which is when I seriously began to worry but it was too late to course correct by then, so now it looks weirdly boxy and old fashioned. I'm stuck for the NY celebration with a style that is way too severe and doesn't suit me. Serves me right for being lazy and not following my stylist to her new location. I picked this salon based on yelp reviews ; I may try it again but will be more specific in terms of expectations. I'm looking at it again and I could actually cry. I don't know what she was thinking. I don't know how I'm going to cover...
