So I heard about this place called Time Out where it’s the third place in the world where you have essentially upscale food court in a mall. This is the essentially what Time Out is, mixed with numerous other sorts of food offerings but designed and owned by top restaurateurs and/or chefs. We went to CAMPO which was been said to be one the better places to eat Portuguese rotisserie chicken. We figured that since this is the brainchild of the famous Ferreira Restaurant it must be good. The outcome. Yes it was good, not great, not amazing but good. I think Toronto has much but restaurants like this than Montreal but such is life. The food was prepared quickly in the amount of time it took to find a table to be exact. How could this be so fast? They continuously cook chickens to an almost fully cooked state, then briefly place it back on the spit to refresh it - I think, or maybe not and it sits in a warmer. I say the second because our food came more warm than hot and fresh with a crispy skin texture. Which is one main reason why it’s not 5 stars. Moreover, the chicken had very minimal marinade (I imagine it’s Piri Piri) and there was no offer to provide a small container of sauce for dipping which it really needed for the white meat especially since it was quite dry. I also do not like when (typically inexperienced cooks) slice into my meals protein to check for done-ness. Likely another attribute to dry chicken. Ironically the dark meat thigh was done fine but the drumstick was hard and overdone. Aside from this the size of the chicken seems much smaller than most other rotisserie in Montreal or even Toronto for that matter Fries are reasonably good considering they said they are not home made, just the portion was quite small as was the delicious salad and its dressing but so small it was almost like a second thought. The other thing is product knowledge. The whole time out is mostly filled with very young and inexperienced staff and it makes you wonder people what the quality will be. In our case the server self admittedly no idea of what the food is, how it’s made, and had no sense of the product or pride in it for that matter. Somewhat of a turn off from a foodie perspective. We heard from many people that the chicken sandwich was amazing but we wanted to evaluate the chicken on its own, and perhaps smothered with other items and the sandwich roll its better I don’t know. All in all reasonably good food but for the price I would not go out of my way again to eat there as they are other better places to eat. But if I were there in the building let’s say, and didn’t want to try all the other great food options, I may try their sandwich as a last ditch to get a hot properly cooked chicken product. All in all I expected much much more from the owners at Ferreira - it’s not up to their standard at all from...
Read moreCampo does justice to a chicken meal. When I first ate at Campo I came in with high expectations because this place was recommended to me with such high praise. This is always a dangerous thing when it comes to that because now the meal I'm getting needs to meet a higher standard due to the skewed expectation levels. However, even with that in mind, they blew my expectations away.
I'll break this review into 2 sections: service and the food.
Service: Honestly, the attitude and atmosphere of the restaurant based on the workers and their service here is very comforting. When ordering your food at the counter the workers treat you like an equal in the sense that they aren't kissing your feet being super "fake nice" to make you feel better. It makes the interaction much more enjoyable because let's be honest here when you have those types of workers that fake their enthusiasm they are quite obvious about it and it's not comforting. By treating you like an equal it makes you feel included. This atmosphere is nice because it reminds you why you are here, to eat and enjoy the food.
Food: Wow! It's not everyday you come across chicken like this. The marinate they have is fantastic and they cook it to perfection. I've never had an issue with dry chicken here, it has always been juicy to the last bite. Their fries are also fantastic; they're those classic more brown and oily style fries that when eaten just makes your day. Not only that but the quantity of fries they give you with the meal is a lot for a lunch meal (you'll probably get tired after eating all of it, not good for work) and just right for a dinner meal (stuff up then just chill doing your own thing). Now when it comes to their spicy sauce that's on every table, that sauce does not shy when it comes to its spice. The sauce is very spicy but at the same time it's just perfect with the meal your eating; the spicyness of the sauce just adds to the experience. Best part is, they sell the sauce at the cash so you can bring it home with you if you want. What I can't tell is you is what I think of the other foods. I've only had their chicken (both leg and breast)...
Read moreCAMPO FULLY LOADED BABY 🙏 . I had such an amazing experience at @campomtl the last time I was there I felt it only right to talk about it again. Honestly their restaurant is even better then the location at @timeoutmarketmontreal if that was even possible! . I couldn't really make up my mind so I had to get a little of everything as you can see here. Starting of course with a traditional Portuguese Chicken Sando. What can I say besides delicious. Great seasoned and marinated chicken really juicy. Homemade fresh traditional bread, fries perfect and crispy 10/10. . Next we have the poutine, the second time I order it and probably not going to be the last! Comes with the chicken of course, Sao Jorge Cheese which was supper fresh and yummy and some chorizo chips for some extra little crunchy bites... Mmmmmmm 🤤 . Last but not least, probably my favorite to go item not only for health but also for flavour is provably the Taro Protein Bowl. Chicken again, of course, quinoa, cucumbers, black beans, taro chips etc.... Honestly amazing flavours, great dressing to tie it all together and really a must have if u try them out next time! .
