#updated# I used to love this place—it was my favorite AYCE spot in Montreal—but after tonight, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. My family and I were enjoying our dinner when, 20 minutes before our time limit was up, our waiter, “Chi,” came over with a serious face and literally shoved the card terminal in our faces—while we were still eating!
I politely asked if we could order desserts first and then pay after, but instead of a simple explanation, I was met with a rude attitude and was abruptly cut off. He insisted that we had to pay first before getting desserts. What?! Since when is that a thing? I went ahead and paid, but I definitely didn’t deserve that kind of treatment, especially considering how nice I tried to be.
As soon as the payment was done, Chi immediately came back to ask what desserts we wanted. We obviously weren’t ready to order yet and asked for 5 minutes, but he insisted we had to order right now because the 2-hour limit was already up. At that point, I had to escalate things and get a manager involved. The manager was a little more relaxed and let us order 10 minutes later, but the terrible service from Chi still left a bad impression.
On the way out, we tried to bring up our concerns with the head manager, hoping they would take feedback seriously so future customers (or even ourselves if we ever came back) would be treated better. But the head manager, the one with glasses, seemed uninterested and just kept repeating, "Our time limit is 2 hours," even though we didn’t exceed it! No wonder Chi felt so confident treating customers that way. Really disappointing experience. I do not recommend this restaurant unless you are super hungry and have no choice but to go to this one. The service needs to be improved. I was once in a restaurant business so I understand their feelings but this has...
Read moreI think my dining experience at this restaurant would have been much more pleasant if the interior decoration was cleaner and more taken care of. The wall having leaking stains, the dirty floor and the ceiling full of pipes definitely lowered my appreciation of the place. I do like their minimalistic wood feel to the place, but it just looks a bit rushed to me. The service was overall patient and attentive. The waiters and waitresses were not really friendly, to us at least, but they were constantly checking up on us to see if everything was good and if we wanted to order more, which was great. The food was served rather quickly which is a plus, but the people bringing the food were just sort of tossing the plates onto the table without saying anything and they had an awfully unhappy expression. There were also a lot of mix ups for the stuff we ordered and who served us. We received quite a few plates we did not order and one of the waiters took half our order just to let us know he couldn't pass the order and we had to wait for one of his colleagues. This problem could easily be avoided if we were to order by ourselves through a website instead of having to rely on waiters and waitresses to order. As for the food, the quality of the meat is notably better than a lot of other AYCE places but, I still feel like the meat slices were lacking in flavours. Most cuts were served with a sauce to marinate the meat but it just didn't complement the meat well enough in my opinion. I did however really enjoy their cold noodle dish and their creme brulee. The cold noodles had a nice vinegary flavour and the creme brulee had a pleasant creamy texture. It was overall a decent dining experience but I feel like there are a lot of small things they could easily improve on to make the customer experience more pleasant and...
Read moreGuybee, the Japanese BBQ establishment in Montreal, left a lasting impression on my recent visit. One unique aspect of this place is that they don't accept reservations, which can be a bit inconvenient for those who prefer planning in advance. However, going early at the opening time worked in our favor, as we were promptly seated without any wait.
What truly sets Guybee apart is the exceptional quality and freshness of their food. The prime kalbi, in particular, was an absolute delight. The succulent, marinated meat practically melted in my mouth, leaving me craving for more. The experience of grilling your own meats at the table adds an interactive and fun element to the dining experience.
The restaurant's atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with an authentic Japanese vibe. The sizzling sounds of meat on the grill and the savory aroma fill the air, creating a warm and bustling environment. It's an ideal place for a casual get-together with friends or family.
However, there is one area where Guybee falls short, and that's the limited selection of vegetables and desserts. As someone who appreciates a balanced meal, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of options in these categories. It would be great to see them expand their offerings in this regard to cater to a wider range of preferences.
In summary, Guybee in Montreal is a fantastic spot for Japanese BBQ enthusiasts. The mouthwatering prime kalbi and the vibrant atmosphere are definite highlights. While there's room for improvement in their vegetable and dessert offerings, the overall experience and the delectable meat dishes make it a restaurant...
