I recently ordered takeout from Wok Café in Montreal through Uber Eats, and overall, it was a satisfying experience with a few highlights and a couple of minor areas for improvement.
Video Review will be posted on Tik Tok and Instagram soon @Foxyappetite
Here’s a breakdown of what I tried:
Salt and Pepper Shrimp (Fave)
The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is definitely the star of the meal. The shrimp were cooked perfectly—crispy on the outside while staying tender on the inside. The seasoning was spot on: a blend of salty, savory, and a mild heat that was just the right amount of kick. The dish was generously sprinkled with herbs and chili, with crunchy vegetables adding extra flavor and freshness. Even though I got it through delivery, the shrimp stayed crispy, which can sometimes be a challenge with takeout. This dish alone would make me order again.
Vegetable Fried Rice (Very Good)
The Vegetable Fried Rice was another strong point. The rice was fluffy and well-seasoned, with a nice wok char that gave it a great depth of flavor. The vegetables (peas, carrots, and bell peppers) were fresh and retained their crunch, which was appreciated. It wasn’t greasy, which I liked, and it felt light but filling at the same time. It paired perfectly with the shrimp. However, I did add soy sauce and seasoning from home to give it a touch more depth, but it was still very good.
Tofu
The tofu was decent, though it wasn’t as exciting as the other dishes. The texture was soft and smooth, and it absorbed the sauce well, but it lacked a little bit of the crispiness that would have given it an extra dimension. The sauce was mild but flavorful, and it complemented the tofu nicely, but I would have loved a bit more of a punch. Still, it’s a good option for those looking for a vegetarian choice, and the portion size was generous.
Spring Rolls
The spring rolls were crispy and arrived well-packed, without getting soggy, which is always a plus with takeout. The filling was mostly vegetables and had a nice crunch, but the flavors could have been a bit bolder. The dipping sauce was sweet and tangy, but I felt it needed a little more kick or complexity. Overall, they were a solid appetizer, but not the standout of the meal.
Takeout Experience
As with any takeout order, the quality of the food can sometimes be affected by delivery, but Wok Café did a great job of packaging everything carefully. The food was still warm when it arrived, and everything was well-sealed to prevent leaks or spills.
Overall
Wok Café is definitely a great option for Asian comfort food through Uber Eats. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is the standout here and a must-try. The Vegetable Fried Rice was flavorful and well-balanced, making it a great side dish. The Tofu was good but could use a bit more texture or flavor. The Spring Rolls were solid but not as impressive as the other items.
The meal was satisfying, and I would definitely order from Wok Café again, especially for their shrimp and fried rice. If you’re craving bold flavors and comforting, hearty dishes, this is a...
Read moreI'd like to be Objective and Assertive in my review, because I have an experience yesterday after Coming for 3 months, 2-3 times a week. I had the last experience to be Abnormally terrible. I usually go for the specials they have for eating in restaurant that are up to 10 dollars. This and previous month they have the Beef Soup with noodles that costs 6.95 or so. It's really good. The male waiter was very kind and respectful every time I arrived and I'm always self conscious to treat people with respect, because I worked for years in the restaurant business from being a humble dish washer to management. I usually had him every day. But last Monday I was chocked, I arrived at 5 pm. And kindly told the lady about I wanted the special. Perhaps she was having just a bad day and took it on me, because when I even thanked her when she brought my glass of water she said in an elevated tone "welcome!", which I felt it was disrespectful. There were no more than 5 people eating in the restaurant, and the waitress at the back was minding her own business sitting down doing something. I was waiting (window from the entry side) for her for a few minutes for my Bill... Usually they see me finishing and pick up my plate and give me my bill. But instead she came 3 times to serve water to the other customers, completely disregarded the fact that I raised my hand respectfully, and the 3rd time she pass around me, told me again, in an elevated tone " you pay at Front!". To which I said, "I have Cash? why should I pay at the front today if every day you bring me the bill? " she didn't look at me and I proceded to pay. I always live 1.5 as a tip for a 6.95 that the Bowl costs, and told the older lady with glasses that seemed like the boss that I don't understand why would they treat me disrespectful because I asked many times for the bill, and after 10 min I had to get up, I can guarantee they were not busy. She told me "Don't like it! DON'T CARE, And took the tip and LITERALLY THREW IT TO ME TO THE COUNTER. I couldn't believe it! I told her "How could you be disrespectful to your customers like this? I always come here, I asked respectfully!, but she literally Snapped and started to yell in Chinese pointing to me with her Staff...I told her that it's a shame she lost a customer, her reply was "Don't care, Leave now and Never come back!" Wow...just wow. I believe if you have a bad day, it's so unprofessional to take it with your customers. I told her that and walked myself out of that place forever. I told my entire class just to make a mental note, and apparently the Older lady is disrespectful not just to me, but to everyone who doesn't like the service. Keep that in mind when going...
Read moreSUPER RUDE. The RUDEST Waitress and staff ever. Imagine the sign outside said they close at 2 am. (The sign with red lights, like currency exchange signs) and I went in at 11.45pm. Nobody came to serve me. I politely asked if I could get a menu, then the waitress yelled at me saying "were crosed we're closed!!" I said "the sign outside mentions 2 am" she said "well it's old sign old sign!! And the chef left!!" She yelled. I said " no need to be rude! How would I know there is no chef. And that the light sign is old??! She didn't apologize. She gave me dirty looks and so did the owner/manager.
Sigh. The SAD part is that was supposed to be my first dinner in Montreal to celebrate 20yrs since I came to study in Canada in 2002. And wok was the first Chinese restaurant I went to 20 years ago and I was giddy happy taking photos of their restaurant to promote it in my travel journey. And that's how disgusting g their treatment was. The food is good but the attitude and service is HORRIBLE RUDE AND REPULSIVE. if you want polite people with good good go to ganadara in the corner of st marc and ste Catherine.
⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ DONT DELIVER FROM THEM. They send sht food. I thought I'll forget about the in-person treatment and deliver from them through doordash. They literally sent me pieces of TOMATO in lieu of the seafood tom yum. And the meet with Chinese broccoli was disgusting the meat was half cooked and didn't taste like beef. Not sure if you can see that on the photo but the "beef" has white spots that look like pus" After one bite I threw the whole thing in the garbage. See other reviews of 1 star of people who drew their food after deliver !! BEWARE.
Horrible shameless business.
Shame on you...
