Montreal Thai Food Guide: The Best Spots Ranked! 🍛🌶️

I don’t live in Montreal but discovered this restaurant on google maps using the key words “sticky rice”. Going through other review’s photos, I spotted a mixed plate with what looked like fermented pork sausage and I was sold. The mixed plate, which features papaya salad, fish cake, crispy pork, fermented sausage and rice noodles, isn’t technically on the menu, but when I showed them the photo from a past customer, they happily accommodated my request! The papaya salad was very good! Acidic, funky, crunchy, sweet and also featured salted crab which was very exciting to see and taste. Since my first time trying fermented pork sausage, I’ve been on the hunt for it in Canada and this one didn’t disappoint. This was super funky and garlicky, with that signature deliciously bouncy texture. The server was very friendly and curious about my interest in Thai food and after talking about our experiences eating at Som Tum Jinda in Toronto, she was excited to recommend me their durian coconut sticky rice dessert, which was also very good. I was told that they have only been open for 2 months which explains why the restaurant wasn’t busier during my visit- but based on the deliciousness, range in their menu, kind service and clean cute environment, I don’t imagine it’ll be this quiet for much longer. Excited to come back and try more!

Authentic Thai food cooked by Thai chefs! I tried the papaya salad (ส้มตำ) with a side of sticky rice (ข้าวเหนียว), larb gai tod (ลาบไก่ทอด) and pad thai (ผัดไทย), which were all so good, like the ones I ate in Thailand. The pad thai is freshly fried and you can see the frying action live with bursts of fire (evidence of an amazing fried dish)!! For chilli lovers/haters, you can also customise the spiciness of your food by telling the staff when ordering. For those who love stronger and super local Thai flavours, I recommend ordering the papaya salad with salted crab (ส้มตำปูปลาร้า) and the papaya salad platter (ตำถาด) . The papaya salad with salted crab has more umami and a saltier flavour profile while the papaya salad platter features delicious side dishes like crispy pork belly (หมูทอด), Thai fish cakes (ทอดมันปลา) and a unique Thai fermented pork (แหนม). Both of these are not on the menu but they can cook it for you if ordered! Overall, my experience with the food and service here was superb, not to mention how the restaurant is conveniently located near berri-uqam station :))) Edit: I recently had their Tom Yum Noodle Soup (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวต้มยำ) and it was perfect for warming up in the chilly weather!! For an even more authentic Thai noodle experience, you can ask for minced pork as the choice of protein XD

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Authentic Thai Delight in the Heart of Montreal!

We had an incredible dining experience at Khao San Resto Thai, and I can confidently say it’s a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Thai flavors in Montreal!

We ordered a variety of dishes: • Chicken Satay • Red Curry Chicken & Rice • Sweet and Sour Chicken • Tofu Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice • Chicken Noodle Soup • Mango Sticky Rice

Every single dish was prepared to perfection — fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautiful presentation. My personal favorite was the Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice. The chicken was perfectly crispy, served with bell peppers, red chilies, onions, pineapple, and carrots. It delivered that perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy, paired with a generous portion of rice. Absolutely delicious!

The Chicken Satay was tender and flavorful with a rich peanut sauce, and the Red Curry Rice had the right amount of heat and creaminess. The Tofu Fried Rice was well-seasoned and satisfying, and the Chicken Noodle Soup offered a comforting, aromatic broth. To top it off, the Mango Sticky Rice was the perfect sweet ending — fresh, fragrant, and beautifully plated.

And for those who enjoy a good drink, don’t miss out on their famous Singha and Chang beers — authentic Thai brews that really complete the experience.

The service was fantastic — the staff were genuinely kind, attentive, and ensured we had everything we needed. Our food arrived quickly, and we felt well taken care of throughout the meal.

If you’re in Montreal and craving Thai cuisine, Khao San Resto Thai is a spot you shouldn’t miss. We’ll definitely be...

Generous portion but disappointing taste and high price considering the quality. My experience was definitely far from the 5 stars average rating they have.

I had pineapple fried rice and there was only a few pineapple pieces that were white and didn't taste like much... So basically it tasted just like a regular fried rice, no sweet pineapple flavor it was really disappointing. And the fried rice itself was not particularly well made. Chicken was a bit dry, but the rest not fried enough.

Gave it a second chance for a pad thai. Still disappointed. Not horrible, but not great at all. Too much sugar and tamarind, not enough balance and umami.

There was also a cold air draft in the dining room (probably alimenting their fumehood from a wrong air intake) so it was uncomfortable.

Also, they advertize a lunch special outside but charged me full price actually. Also, it's kind of a fast food style restaurant where the kitchen staff will actually tell you go sit, bring you a menu and bring your plate, but you don't really get an attentive table service otherwise... But they do suggest generous tipping in the 15-25% range on the terminal when paying which is a bit much for a minimal service.

Long story short, ok restaurant, but very far away from deserving its current high rating in my experience. Food, comfort and service were...
