The waiter was absolutely terrible. I would gave this place a 0 if I could. I'm an English speaker and I rarely carry physical cash on me. It was a raining day and I decided to kill some time in this restaurant. My bill for 2 hotdogs and 2 tacos came to 62$ with tax (Food was generic and mediocre served with a handful of Doritos - I was mainly there for the board games, so I'm not even going to bother start with their menu). The waiter poured me 3 glasses of water (which was appreciated). We were told that if we order main courses the games are free to play, which is fine. I gave the restaurant 70$ including tips on my credit card without doing much calculations, and my girlfriend tipped the game master on top of it (I will not lie, the game master did a pretty good job explaining the games, I would tip him myself in his metal dropbox if I had cash). Just when we were about to leave, the waiter came up to my girlfriend asking if there's anything wrong with the service and demanding for higher tips and trying to embarrass us in French. I'm not a french speaker so I was clueless didn't know what the hell was going on except that my girlfriend wasn't too happy. He could've just asked me, the person who paid for the meals and get it resolved instead of trying to ruin the evening for everyone. (And yes that sneaky bastard does speak English) He was way out of line. Tips are optional in Canada and in general people tip 14% before tax, if it was mandatory they should include it in the bill. Normally I do tip over that percentage but I agree that evening I miscalculated by a few cents to a dollar at most but that's definitely not a reason to confront any customers like that. Definitely lost a group...
Read moreWe came here expecting to play games for a couple of hours, and potentially order a little something to snack on.
We had been to Randolph many times in the past, and normally just paid the entrance fee, played a couple of games, then left. We were never pressured to order drinks, food, or tip the employees.
The vibe was entirely different here. We were seated and the menu was explained to us. We said we would start with water. Waiter came back and asked if we were ready to order. We said that we wanted to play a game or two first. He told us to PROMISE HIM that we would order something later, as apparently it’s policy for us to purchase something ? Nowhere was this listed on their website. He told us his colleague would come see us for a game. We waited 5 minutes, no one showed up. We had to get the game ourselves and figure out the rules. 45 minutes later, the game guy finally came to our table. Please note that at this point, we had ordered something. The game guy only came to our table once we ordered food, and took his time getting there (although the place was far from being full).
Also, the games were falling apart and missing pieces.
Finally, we got up to leave and paid the bill. The waiter from the beginning showed us a tip jar for his colleague who explained the games and told us that tips are encouraged. My boyfriend and I felt pressured to leave a tip. I paid the entrance fees and didn’t tip, and my boyfriend tipped 15% on the food.
Please don’t come here if you want to play games and chill. Come here and expect to be basically forced to buy their overpriced food and be pressured by waiters...
Read moreFirst of all, what does the sign say? Game Salon. I went there with two friends of mine, and we were seated outside. We were then asked to move tables because a larger group arrived. This is perfectly fine. We went there to play board games and have some drinks. We didn’t go there to eat. 15 minutes after we were seated, the waitress came to the table. We wanted to get the board games first and then to order drinks, but she didn’t let us. Okay, whatever. We ordered some drinks. She came back after another 10-15 minutes saying that we didn’t order enough and that we needed to order more. There is a cover charge for the board games. We already ordered some drinks. What is “enough”? I saw people drinking beers and playing board games. So why was it an issue for us? I talked to the manager who was nice and admitted that it didn’t make sense, but still didn’t explain how much we needed to order to be eligible to play board games. Manager said their place is Restaurant first, bar second, game salon third. You should change your sign then. Also said that they’re busy and that they basically don’t wanna waste a table for people ordering a couple of drinks and playing board games. Anyways, he was kinda apologetic: he said “i know it’s a little bit our fault too”. Well it’s definitely our fault that we came to your salon de jeux. He talked in a nice tone regardless, unlike the waitress who wasn’t nice to us from the moment we said we wanted to play board games. Won’t go there ever again. There are plenty of places where you can eat (without a minimum), and places where you can play...
