I had this restaurant on my "Must try" list for so long and was super excited today to try it. Yes the food was good (soup was delicious but the base was a tad oily: felt the oil on my lips after). HOWEVER, there were a bunch of disappointments.
Firstly and most importantly, the cashier clearly either wanted to try to scam us into paying more or doesn't understand what she's doing. She told my friend and I that credit card is NOT accepted as payment (only debit or cash). My friend payed first and tapped her credit card, and it worked. My friend then left me there as she was late for something. I got the cashier's attention to let her know I am ready to pay and since she originally said they don't accept credit cards but my friend's credit card worked, I double checked if I could use mine. She told me yes they accept credit cards but charge an extra dollar and some for fees. This was so strange but I paid it due to me being tired. I asked the cashier how come she originally told us she wont accept credit card and then switched it to charging me a dollar and some for using it, and she got defensive and told me that is how it is and my friend should come back and pay the processing fee.
I am a very down to earth person and have an open mind with a lot of things, but this is absolutely mediocre. You cannot refuse credit and then switch up your story to charge us more. I felt so used and this changed my entire willingness to return to this restaurant. It makes me wonder how many other people she does this to, especially vulnerable students. I have never had a bad experience until now and it really sucks because my hopes were high for this place.
Secondly, the pasta is made freshly right there behind the window which is cool. However, the person making it slams the dough really hard on the counter making an overly loud and stimulating bang. This made our experience uncomfortable because it was already loud inside from the guests chatting while eating and the crowd lined up waiting for orders, and the banging on top of this was causing a horrible headache sensation.
I really hope something can be changed about this, at least the cashier issue because a business can have so much potential if you run it correctly.
NOTE: After posting this, I noticed a few other reviews in the past speaking about this same issue. So this really is...
Read moreI went once and loved it. The second time was today but left without even ordering anything. I go in, the girl made me sit next to a stranger when three large tables were free. I accepted, understanding that she does not wish to make me sit at a table that can hold 4 people. She insisted i sit facing the wall but i refused. I sat at the opposite side but then i moved the table literally an inch so that it doesn’t feel like I’m sharing my meal with the stranger I’m sitting with. She insisted that I put the table back because apparently, that one inch will close the passage to the washroom. At the table next to me there was indeed a man sitting at the edge and clearly he was the one blocking the way to the washroom. I told her to forget about it and that it’s best if I leave. She did not even blink when I said that and seemed to be happy I left! Shame on you. I will never step foot over there. Please hire people who know how to deal with customers, and especially, who understand basic english and french in order to communicate well with...
Read moreNouilles Zhonghua is a small noodle restaurant on the south side of McGill campus right on the opposite side of Roddick Gates on Sherbrooke. They specialize in a small menu of 6 noodle entrees including classics like Lanzhou style noodles and noodles in pork sauce.
I got the large special Lanzhou beef noodles. The dish came out pipping hot and the noodles were cooked to perfection. The soup was also very flavourful and delicious. I will note that when ordering, three sizes are available and I was a little disappointed in the difference between the regular and the large. Furthermore, the beef slices were a bit too tough for my taste, but given they were cut thin, this was not an issue. Lastly, I will note that this restaurant is in a pretty small location so seating is pretty tight and limited. Otherwise, I found the food quite delicious and generally had a great experience!
They only accept cash or debit.
