Only rating 1 star because you can’t rate 0. Been there so many times expecting better service and every single time I’m disappointed. Also sign says 24/7 but is always closed by 10 or 11 every single day. Not sure why any of the McDonald’s are advertised as 24/7 drive through when they all close between 10-11. The worst experience was a couple of weeks ago. Went through the drive through with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. Not a hard order, and it wasn’t busy inside or in the drive through, just a couple of burgers and fries and 3 sodas. Waited for 20 minutes. Got home and opened the bag; all Monopolies were RIPPED off of our sandwiches, drinks, and fries, patties were dry and burnt, buns were burnt, order was completely wrong. Asked for the receipt with the meals and received no receipt. Called the location to see if we could get a refund and they said a full refund and they’d remake the whole order. Went back and the lady at the register, Hannah, said they wouldn’t give a refund and could only remake one of the meals since they ‘didn’t have the order in the system.’ We tried to explain we asked for a receipt and didn't get one and that we were told on the phone we’d get a refund, she was pretty rude considering we were very calm and nice to her about it. After not knowing what to do, my lovely boyfriend saw all of the managers sitting at a table on their computers and decided to just talk to them since Hannah wasn’t doing too much for us. He asked if any of them were the boss. One stood up and brought my boyfriend to the side and they chatted. The second assistant manager, Bobby, explained McDonalds doesn’t do refunds (even though we were told on the phone we’d get our full refund) but after explaining everything they ended up remaking the entire order with no charge. Still cold and pretty dry. Then went again today, it was slow inside and in the drive through once again, went through the drive through for quicker service since we had groceries and frozen food in the trunk and it took 20 minutes yet again, for a wrap, fries, and 3 burgers. They had 7 cars behind us pull in and park (even though it was still quiet in the sit down area) waiting and a car with 4 people in it had two full bags of food given to them when they had parked 10 minutes after us. We definitely will never return to this location considering every experience there has been terrible. Overall terrible service, always dirty inside, long waits for ‘fast food’, and usually cold/dry/burnt food. If I could rate 0...

Edit: it's been 2 years since I wrote the below review, and I feel I should update it. Rating is bumped from 1 star to 3. It's much better than it was, service-wise, and I'm back to being a semi-regular customer. I find the employees are much better at friendliness, making eye contact, and I no longer have an issue with missing orders. In addition, the remodel is very nice, very comfortable, and the new ordering station is a good feature.

Having said that, it still has some problems to work out. The food still has issues. I always stop in the parking lot to check my order now because while I don't have missing items anymore, I've still had enough orders that were wrong (different item than I ordered, usually) and ended up at work with no breakfast or lunch and no time to go back and get the issue fixed.

That however is not my main gripe. Mistakes happen, and checking in the parking lot means I can get it fixed asap. The problem I have regularly enough to still gripe about is the food temperatures when getting takeout. I rarely order fries because even though I live 2 minutes down the road, too often I've sat down to eat and discover that my fries are stone cold - which means there's no way they were not when they were put in the bag. I also try to avoid late night runs because everything is cold then - cold chicken nuggets are about as appealing as cold fries - which is to say, the food gets picked at and then tossed. I could check this as well but it's a bit more involved, needing to open everything, it means I'm going to get my hands greasy while driving, and honestly, that isn't something I should have to check.

2 year old review follows: I've been several times but I'm done with this location. The service is sometimes okay (mostly by the girls, it seems like), but more often it is hurried, with no eye contact, and clearly without care. Which shows in the sloppy food preparation (drinks that have been spilled and not wiped clean, or with loose lids handed to you in the car) or order filling (missing items! so many...

This was a horrible experience both in service and in quality. First the gentleman who took our order could not be understood Then he can't understand me. I repeated the order twice and he repeated the order back to me correctly the third time. After what seemed an unusually long wait (especially since we were the only ones in line in the drive through and there didn't appear to be many people in the restaurant) our order arrived Of the three employees I could see, none appeared to be in the process of completing any tasks other than looking back at us. When we got home we noticed our order was incorrect. I phoned the Mcdonald's in question only to be told that I was the one who was mistaken. It appears that I received two McDoubles and as McDoubles don't have bacon, I shouldn't be complaining. Only problem is that I ordered McDoubles with Bacon and got the man to repeat the order until he did so correctly, I assumed we were going to get what I ordered for us. I received no compensation and no apology. I was made to feel that I was in the wrong to have said something simply because I was not overcharged. That's fine, but I didn't get what I ordered in the first place, so what wasn't I at least apologized to? The food was really soggy this time around, The wrap I had was torn and wouldn't stay together and my spouse says his hamburger tasted spit on although how you can taste that I don't know I had a McSignture McWrap before and it was really good. The service at the Nicol street McDonald's is horrible with constant and consistent deployment of new management. The held views on the homeless and mentally ill are profoundly discriminate in terms of getting you're free refills and full bennifit of the mcafe coupon makes this establishment chinsy and chessey. Service is mainly immigrants new to the country and is a wonderful cultural exchange opportunity however being honest...sanitation is low even for the managers working here. Biological cross contamination and chemical contamination needs to be a priority. I'm personally saying quietly wouldn't hurt Nanaimo if this particular place did shut down and with zero theft hmmm....
