Mr Halal Burger — Restaurant in Northern Mature Area

When covid became "a thing", I felt terrible about all the businesses that had to shutdown. I promised myself to try harder at supporting family/local businesses vs going to chain operations. Since then, I found a great family place on the northside for donairs, one for pizza...but it was hard to find a good spot for burgers, and I always just end up going to Wendy's. One day, by accident - I saw Mr Halal Burger across the intersection from Wendy's and checked out their promising reviews.

I finally came in for lunch today and had the cheeseburger combo. I don't think I've ever tasted a more fresh and tasty burger in this city. It was clear after the first bite that this place is the REAL DEAL. The portion of fries was BONKERS, and could probably feed 2 or 3 people...VERY generous amount. I looked over at the meals that fellow patrons were enjoying, also. The menu looks pretty impressive, and I look forward to trying other things. (I hope jalapenos will be available as a burger topping in the future!)

There were also the little things: a young man working hard cleaning the windows inside and out, the super-friendly and welcoming girl at the counter. Little things like that speak volumes about how much these good people care about their business and community.

UPDATE: It's been a couple of months and I come here at least every week or every other week to dine. They did a jalapeño burger on the menu. It has pickled jalapeños AND pickles, so it was too much of a "vinegar bomb" for me. I was kinda hoping for fresh jalapeños to go with the grilled onions. I've also had spicy chicken sandwich and poutine fries, but still a fan of the classic double-cheeseburger combo. Can't go...

Nice ample parking for a prime location. Walked in to this nice restaurant to find only one table of 2 dinning. Prices are very fair considering there was an army On shift. Fully staffed for a Friday and then some. Mashalla

Ordered a smashed cheese burger double patty to go and it came to $9.45 out the door Service was on the slow side

As for taste nothing to write home about and the chef should be careful as garlic mayo and beef isn’t really a thing unless it’s a chicken burger or house special maybe. A cheese burger smash as indicated on the menu should be just that with normal sauces. Had it read mhb garlic lovers burger then fair game so buyer beware of the funny sauce. Also side note, farthest thing from a smash burger

Would I come back ?? Hard to say but reading the other less than stellar reviews and replies leads me to believe that whoever is managing this page is definitely not receptive and has an ego. Shouldn’t discount other people’s pov n opinions and question the veracity of the experience by saying things like “bizarre” or “why didn’t you come forward” etc Ppl these days don’t like confrontation on the flip side they just don’t return. This business is Inshalla here to stay if ownership can be objective and listen...

Not good. Went there at Noon and was the only customer (should’ve been my first tip that it was not going to be great). Placed my order after reading the overly large menu. Ordered two things double cheese burger and crinkle cut fries (for a premium cost…almost $19 with drink). 5 people working there and they managed to screw up the order and gave me regular shoestring fries. Oh well, I was in a hurry. Had a couple fries that were very, very average, knew I wouldn’t finish them. Moved onto the burger. First bite…Salty, greasy, salty, mushy, and did I mention salty? Wilty lettuce and over-ripe tomato, no pickle or onion to give it any crunch. It was salty mush. So salty it stung the inside of my mouth. The manager (maybe owner) asked how it was. I said “okay” to be kind. He seemed surprised that I thought it was just okay and asked why. To offer something I told him that they gave me the wrong fries. He immediately had his team start making the right ones. I told him not to bother as I wouldn’t eat them. I never ate all the boring shoestring fries, why would I want more fries. Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend this place, there are 100’s of places to get better food at better prices. Don’t fall for the tempting instagram...
