The Copper Penny has a great location on the south side of Princess Street and close to the Grand Theatre. It's also very visually appealing inside with the reddish walls, wooden chairs and tables and booths, Group of Seven inspired art on the walls, a smart looking bar and giant Copper Penny sculpture on the wall going up to the washrooms.
We arrived late on a Sunday morning when there weren't many customers. However, it filled up over the noonhour with smart looking young couples and small groups.
There was lots of choice on the 3-5 page menu. One of us ordered the Ciabatta vegetable sandwich and the other a red coloured cod wrap. Both the sandwich and the wrap were quite delicious. Both plates were over-flowing with giant french fries, one with very salty seasoning mixture and the other with a more modest amount of salt.
I quite enjoyed my craft beer brewed at a nearby Bath, Ontario brewery.
The upstairs washrooms were smart and clean but not accessible at the top of the stairs. Our server was very pleasant...
Read moreWouldn't recommend it. My partner ordered the Alfredo pasta. For 16 dollars, we received a small portion of bland pasta, with about 8 full cloves of barely cooked garlic inside of it, which is all you could taste. And it came with a single piece of garlic toast that you get pre-made in plastic bags at the grocery store. She only ate about 2 bites of it. And when asked how it was we were honest and instead of taking the item off of our bill, which would have been the appropriate action as we did not eat it, we were given 15%, off the item. It's still not worth it, and we are not ones to cause a scene and push the matter. I got the old-fashioned burger, and it was a dry slab of meat with a single tomato and pickle covering half of the burger. This was not a good meal by any standard. The highlight was the fries I received. I had to delete my old review as this new experience completely soured my opinion of this restaurant. We will...
Read moreSad to say I was really disappointed with my meal and the overall experience. We were greeted and seated quite quickly but afyter that began the wait, the server took almost 20mins to come to the table and acted surprised that we were not only ready to order drinks but also meals (duh, we'd been there for an eternity). Then she seemed to just disappear. Both my wife and I ordered burgers that turned out to be so incredibly dry they were hard to stomach. The fries were so salty I couldn't finish them. I would have loved a second beer but well our waitress never came back to ask if we needed or wanted anything so i never got the opportunity.
Whats really sad is we were here a years back and I absolutely loved it and I had since recommended the place....this time my favorite part of the meal was after it was over and I left. I don't think I'll ever return to the copper Penny or ever recommend...
