Visiting Ottawa for the weekend and we tried this place, since it was close to our hotel. I ordered through their online ordering service. Placed order under my wife's FULL name.
My wife goes to pick it up and notices there are items missing. Attendant shows her the receipt saying that the items were not ordered. No attempt to verify that this was our actual order. Just hands over the bag of food. Anyways, it comes back to the hotel and I'm like where are the items I ordered? Why are the mains different? Why was it $20 more?
So I call. I explain the situation to the server. Immediately, my wife is blamed for the mix up. They say "yeah she took someone else's order" and "Oh, well I showed her the receipt". I inform the woman on the phone that this is the incorrect way to handle the situation and she promises a refund. So I get up, take my wife's card, and head down from the 16th floor of our hotel to go get a refund.
I get to my car and the manager calls. Long story less long, he makes some excuses and informs me that both orders were made with the same first name. He offers to give me the missing items and a partial refund for the difference. The items at this point are useless to me and the difference in money negligible, but the server had offered to comp the meal! I tell him if he doesn't want to process the refund that was promised, he can have his 1 star review on Google and he proceeds to accuse me of threatening him. Damn, what a delicate soul!
On top of all this, the food was pretty underwhelming! My wife has been to Hawaii and indulged in the local cuisine. She said perhaps the most authentic thing about the restaurant was the sign that says "Aloha".
The entire debacle could have been avoided by verifying the last name. If you have a problem with your order, you will have a problem with their service. Don't...
Read moreWent here for lunch today. It was our first time trying Hawaiian BBQ. The lovely FOH person recommended we try the Chicken Katsu mix and the Crab Rangoon to start (remember when that was all the rage back in the day?) 🤣 Those Rangoons took me on a very nostalgic trip ☺️...they were perfectly crisp, and they had a tasty filling. The Chicken Katsu mix was an absolute highlight! I will go in the record and far that the Katsu is by FAAAAR the best in this city! It was also perfectly crisp without being oily/greasy, and you can tell that they took their time and marinated it properly as it will flavoured throughout (not just the in the batter, or on the surface of the chicken). The BBQ beef was also well seasoned and very tender. The macaroni salad side was also a nice variation on classic!
I don't know if they'll be upset with me for sharing, but I highly recommend their chili sauce to do your food in. It's not too spicy (take that with a grain of salt....I cook with habaneros lol), but it is undoubtedly flavourful.
I can't express how awesome the service was! Even though everything was make fresh to order, it didn't take very long at all. You can order ahead and pick via their website ) might consider that if I'm in a time crunch), and they also catering orders....would highly recommend if you want to make a great impression on your colleagues😉 The chef in the back is supremely talented and I look forward to enjoying more of their cooking.
All in all, I genuinely and highly recommend this place, and I look forward to going back and trying the chicken musubi, the seafood items, as well as the classic Loco Moco.
Do yourselves a favour and treat yourselves to this one of a kind...
Read moreCame here for dinner and got their Island Mix, with 1 scoop of rice & 1 of macaroni salad, their chicken katsu, and their BBQ Hawaiian Beef.
The service was very friendly and helpful in deciding what to get.
The rice came with a soy based sauce on the side to be added, that was very tasty and a little sweet. The macaroni salad I didn't find had much flavor aside from big chunks of pineapple, which wasn't bad, but also wasn't really to my preferences. The chicken katsu was cooked to perfection and very crispy and came with a sauce on the side that was half way between a sweet & sour sauce and a tonkatsu sauce, which was very tasty. The beef was quite salty and a little on the dry side, but was very tender and had good flavor and texture.
My friend ordered the BBQ chicken and I tried a bit, and it was much juicier than the beef and not quite as salty.
Overall, the quality & portion for the price here can't be beat, though. Overall very good food and I will definitely be back.
One note for the restaurant: it would be nice to have a few side options for the plates besides just rice & macaroni salad. Something lighter like salad, or maybe a potato side would be...
