August 2024 Fries and poutine still taste good. I'm knocking two stars off because they got rid of their Family size and ended up changing their Great and Monster containers too - from rectangle to round ones... not as deep, fitting way less and not filled to the rim although the lid is concave to accommodate for more. The Monster size classic poutine used to be more than enough for 2 people... not anymore :-/. Another example of shrinkflation, unfortunately. Service is great, staff is friendly, and I understand the employer pays more than min. wage with great benefits but it's difficult to support after these changes.
May 2022 This has officially became my #1 poutine spot in Ottawa! Friendliness of staff and quality of food are both consistent. The fries to gravy and cheese ratio is always spot-on. The fries are freshly cut (same day) and have the perfect texture. The gravy is vegeterian and so tasty! Although I like my poutine classic/minimal, there are many options to satisfy any palate. What makes the experience memorable every time is the customer service - the team is not just attentive and efficient but is also sooo friendly and welcoming. Truly, no place compares to The Great Canadian Poutinerie on Bank St! Cheers 🙏
2020-2021 This place is in my top 2 of best poutines in Ottawa! Their garlic sauce/mayo is also the best I've ever tried. Staff is very friendly. No kidding - you won't be...
Read moreGreat Canadian Poutinerie in downtown Ottawa is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves poutine or wants to experience an authentic Canadian classic. I can confidently say it’s the best poutine I’ve had in Canada, and I’ve tried poutine from coast to coast. Best one for me here: Original Philly.
From the moment you walk through the door, the customer service is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and they make you feel right at home. The whole process, from ordering to getting your poutine, is smooth and enjoyable.
The food is made fresh right in front of you, which adds to the excitement. You can see the fries being cooked, the gravy being poured, and the toppings being added with precision and care. The fries are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The gravy is rich and flavorful, and the cheese curds are just the right consistency—soft but with a satisfying squeak.
The restaurant’s style and ambiance are laid-back yet engaging, providing a great backdrop for enjoying your meal. Whether you’re dining in or taking your poutine to go, the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable.
Overall, I highly recommend Great Canadian Poutinerie to anyone looking for an exceptional poutine experience. It’s a place where you can enjoy high-quality food and excellent customer service, making it a great choice for poutine lovers or anyone looking to try this iconic...
Read moreWent there and the owner was there, the friendliest guy out there. Basically, everything here is a poutine except the smoke meat sandwich. If you think to yourself you know what to expect thought, you are wrong!
Over the years he's crafted some premium variations on the classic poutine. Fresh cut french fries, cheese curds and a sauce for every dish but what kind of sauce?!, what other golden nuggets were added?! I'm sure you can imagine a lot of options but it's not just sausage on a poutine or bits of chicken, it's more of a gourmet dish variation.
I had the butter chicken version today and wow, I could have drunk the sauce, not spicy really, just the right punch of flavour and happiness!
I counted about 18 different kinds of poutine and they all made sense to me. One would think, probably the Italian poutine Found in Quebec etc... Nope, didn't see that one but that feels a bit lazy compared to this menu. I'm talking Philly cheese steak, pulled pork, smoke meat, grilled cheese poutine, butter chicken, the garlic sauce one is mmm mmm good.
I really liked my experience at the Bank Street location today and will have a hard time trying a different flavour next time, probably butter chicken again! Yeah! For sure!
I now feel silly not having taken a picture but afterall, this was a sneaky...
