Angry Vegan — Restaurant in Penticton

A friend and I popped in to this café yesterday (I wouldn't call it a restaurant). We enjoyed our white bean burgers and blended fruit drinks, but the service left a lot to be desired. The young woman behind the counter was downright hostile when my friend asked if she could have the onion on her burger cooked, saying, "you could just not have onion at all" as if it was too onerous a request. There was just no effort to be friendly and helpful when we could have used some orientation and suggestions in what was clearly our first visit to the establishment. We were also disappointed that the delicious drinks came in single-use plastic containers with plastic straws when we stated clearly we were dining in. The interior is very basic and the "outdoor seating" mentioned is one small table and 2 chairs out on the sidewalk in what is a somewhat dodgy area. I'm surprised by all the very positive reviews; I doubt these folks had the angry vegan serving them or maybe she was just in a bad...

For those with Celiac disease I would not recommend this place. I ate here a few days and notified the staff that I have celiac disease and that i cannot eat anything with wheat. Was promised that everything would be carefully prepared without gluten. After getting and eating the food I suspected that the wrap was not gluten free. The next day I came back and asked the chef if they had used the gluten free wrap. He said that it definitely was a wheat wrap that he used (not gluten free) and did not seem too bothered. Now, I have been stuck to the toilet 4 days after with much intestinal pain because of it. I would expect a progressive cafe to be more careful when preparing their food. I would not recommend this place to anyone who has food...

Unfortunately, it's difficult to find a Healthy place to eat out, or in Penticton. Last census data stated 220 plus restaurants, I'm not sure if that figure includes food trucks. Darren and Yesenia, a husband and wife team! I can wholeheartedly recommend the Burrito wraps, and the Spicy chickpeas are Awesome. There's a romantic table for two, and a pet outside of this clean eatery. It's close enough to Penticton HS, and wise students have discovered AV. The fresh air fried fries with a Veg mushroom gravy are popular. To date, this is the highest ranked restaurant in the South Okanagan.
