It's an ok place, decent pastries.
I'll try to address the concerns from the business.
Indeed, yes, I knew from the start they only had drip coffee and used that for their lattes.
In my review, I'm comparing them to all the other, similar establishments across the continent that serve a similar market segment. And, that's the only fair way to write a review--in other words, compare their product to their competition.
The vast majority of coffee shops (every other one I've been to, actually) really DO make true, espresso based lattes. Simply put, the drip coffee alternative isn't as good as a real latte--and that's a valid concern to mention in a review of a coffee shop.
Anyone going here hoping to get a latte is likely to be disappointed as the "drip blended latte" is subpar in comparison. It may be the best "drip blended latte" possible, but it's just not a comparable substitute for one made with espresso from an espresso machine.
I had nothing to complain about, as I knew the "latte" was going to be made with drip coffee. As such, there wasn't a specific complaint and they were up front about that. Thus, there was really nothing to address.
If you want a cup of drip coffee and a pastry, it's likely a fine enough place.
But, the fact is, they don't have an espresso machine, so they make lattes with drip coffee instead. That doesn't allow them to get the rating that a shop with an espresso machine would.
It works in a pinch, but it's not on a par with an espresso latte.
Note: I made similar "mocha" drinks for some time at work when all I had access to was drip coffee and a packet of hot chocolate powder. They worked, but I never had any illusion...
Read moreThere are so many things to say about how fantastic this place is, but I am going to start with the pizza. One of their newest offerings is takeout gluten free pizza. I grabbed a pizza from their new frozen case and took it home to bake on a Saturday night, and with the first bite my jaw dropped. I have tried a lot of gluten free and dairy free pizza over the years and this one surprised me. The crust was light and airy inside and the outside crisp (not the usually texture one might expect), topped with the iconic pairing of spinach and artichoke with their in house cheese, this pizza was absolutely decadent! I can't wait to try the others.
Gratify is known for dishing up spectacular cheesecakes and other sweets, and I love knowing that you can literally select anything there and will be amazed at how yummy it is, and yet it is free of dairy, gluten and refined garbage ingredients.
I have yet to try everything on the menu, but beyond the pizza my fave's so far are: Salted Caramel Pecan Bars Peanut Butter Cups The soups (while all yummy there was one daily soup that I still daydream about) The wraps (how they get a GF wrap to stay that soft and stay together baffles me) The Chai (I love coffee but their Chai is just magical)
I work with people who have food sensitivities and I always recommend Gratify. That said, their amazing selection and selection and service is sure to please everyone. My advice, try several things when you go in so that you can start adding your favourites into your weekly...
Read moreThis has got to be one of the best cafe/restaurants I've ever been to. Like I've gone to places and really liked something on their menu, but this place isn't like that. Every single thing I try on the menu is the best version of that food I've ever tried in my life. I'm a seasoned chef, and have run restaurants. Yet I have no freaking idea how they make that food of food here. If I could I would eat that pumpkin spice cheese cake every day of my life. And everything's vegan! I'm not even vegan! I went in there by mistake and didn't even realiE the food I was eating was vegan!! That's insane! Their cheese cake is 100% better than regular cheese cake and it's vegan.... I think the owners, the chef, everyone in that building need to be arrested for breaking the laws of nature and making the best cheese cake I've ever had and there no cheese in it. I simmer on excitement and upset at this place. Excitement that I found it, upset that I'll never...
