Read moreI live in the neighborhood and have walked by this restaurant many times and finally got a chance to try it. The reviews looked great and I was excited to try it. I really wanted to love it, but I have to say I was underwhelmed.
I went there with two others for dinner. The menu is intended for sharing but we found it a bit difficult to pick items that we thought would make a coherent meal. The menu seems more conducive to have some appetizers with your cocktail. And maybe that’s the point?
We had the lettuce wraps with pork belly. They looked beautiful but tasted just ok. The pork was basically pure fat (I know pork belly is fatty, but I usually expect some meat mixed in?)
We also had the Saigon street chicken. I usually love fried chicken, but this was very dry and seemed a bit over cooked? The family bread was also quite dried out and not very moreish.
But the worst was the short rib agnolotti, which had very undercooked/raw pasta dough! They were kind enough to make a new batch for us, but we had all eaten one already before we realized it was raw. The new batch was much better, but the experience of eating the undercooked dough was unpleasant and kind of ruined the experience. It was also quite expensive and the portion very small for the price (and not a super easy dish to share?)
Overall, none of the dishes quite hit the spot.
On a good note, I had a non-alcoholic mint & passion sparkling lemonade and it was delicious! I might go back just for that! But not sure I’d come again to have a meal....
Read moreTL;DR: Kin & Folk is a must-visit! From the charming ambiance to the outstanding service and delicious Asian fusion cuisine, this place deserves five stars!
Celebrating our anniversary at Kin & Folk was an absolute delight. Nestled in the heart of Penticton, the positive buzz from previous reviews is well-founded.
The outdoor seating was delightful. A giant maple tree growing in the middle of the patio added a touch of nature and warmth to our dinner. The ambiance was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the evening.
What truly stood out was the impeccable service. Our waiter orchestrated the meal, delivering each dish with a cadence that ensured there was never a lull. The attentiveness and timing showcased a level of professionalism that was truly appreciated.
The heart of any dining experience is the food that flourished at Kin & Folk. The Asian fusion showcased flavors and creativity. The undeniable highlights were the Pork Bao Buns, Five Spice Agnolotti, and Sesame Tofu Cabbage. However, every dish we ordered was delicious, and nothing disappointed. For instance, I'm not a fan of Tiramisu, yet I wouldn't think twice about ordering the Miso Tiramisu for dessert again in a heartbeat.
Kin & Folk is an undeniable gem. My only concern is securing reservations in the future, as Kin & Folk is undoubtedly on the path to becoming a...
