Don Tacos Richmond — Restaurant in Richmond

After reading countless reviews online, I decided to try Don Tacos out on Friday afternoon. Although it was a Friday and the food court was busy, and there were 4 or 5 people ahead of me, it took only around 5 minutes for my food to be ready. My first time here so I tried the 3 soft tacos - one with lamb meat, one with beef, and the last with chicken. I was impressed by the variety of options available on their menu and the variety of add-on - white rice, brown rice, so many vegetable options to add to the tacos, cheese, guacamole, etc. the list was endless! In the end I had 1 spicy and 2 mild and they were all great! The protein had great taste and the spicy salsa was just enough to give you a kick but not too much to not be able to enjoy. For me, I was full on two tacos as they pack them with protein and other things generously. This was my second time having halal tacos (other time was in Mississauga) and I would say that this place was much more prompt in getting orders made and was much more value for the money. TL;DR: I WON'T COME BACK UNLESS I SEE THE USUAL GUY WORKING. He used to give generous portions and made the experience worth it. Lately, with different staff, the service and food quality just haven't been the same.

I came in craving my usual order, a chicken quesadilla, but the visit was disappointing. The cashier seemed confused and almost made tacos instead. I had to correct her, and even then, there was a lot of miscommunication. I asked if the quesadilla came with meat, but I couldn't really understand her response. I just wanted chicken, but wasn't sure if it was actually included. When I got home and opened the food, the portion size was noticeably smaller than usual. The guy who typically works there always gives fair and generous portions, which is one of the reasons I kept coming back. This time, with different staff, it didn't meet expectations.

Surprised by the high reviews. Expectations werent high for food court food and was still quite disappointed. Ordered a quesadilla and the amount of cheese dusted on top was laughable. Completely fell apart because there was next to no cheese holding anything together. Food was also shockingly bland, even with all of the sauces.

Ordered the combo and they really should state it only comes with a can of pop, not the drinks that are actually listed on the menu. That was another disappointment and I would not have added that on if I had known.

Beyond that, I will say portions are huge - so if you’re looking for a lot of food then you may rate it higher. But it’s by no means cheap, even if you get a lot. Overall, likely won’t come back - but if I did, I would definitely stay away from the...
