Happy Lamb Hot Pot
Address: 5300 Number 3 Road, Unit 405, Richmond, BC V6X 2X9
Hot pot remains one of the most satisfying dining experiences, and Happy Lamb Hot Pot in Richmond delivers a compelling take on this beloved culinary tradition. Known for its emphasis on lamb-based offerings, the restaurant provides a well-rounded selection of ingredients, reasonable pricing, and a comfortable dining environment.
Food
For our soup base, we selected the curry broth, a fragrant and flavorful option that provided a robust foundation for the meal. The broth had just the right level of spice, enhancing the ingredients without overpowering their natural flavors.
Among the standout selections, the beef and lamb platter was particularly impressive. The cuts were generously thick, beautifully marbled, and well-presented, making them a highlight of the meal. The lamb skewers also stood out, offering a perfect balance of tenderness and seasoning.
The ball platter—a mix of various meatball was another enjoyable addition, providing different textures and flavors that absorbed the broth well. The oyster mushrooms contributed an earthy umami depth, while the fish tofu puff was light, airy, and soaked up the broth’s richness beautifully.
Other selections, such as the squid roll and spinach, were fresh and enjoyable but less remarkable. The prime lamb shoulder was another solid choice, delivering the signature richness and tenderness expected of premium lamb cuts. To complement the meal, we ordered plum juice, which provided a refreshing contrast to the bold flavors of the hot pot.
Overall, the quality and preparation of the ingredients were excellent, with a particular emphasis on the premium cuts of beef and lamb that truly set this experience apart.

Service
Service at Happy Lamb Hot Pot was efficient but unremarkable. While staff members were polite and attentive to standard requests, the experience lacked the warmth and engagement that define truly exceptional hospitality. Compared to other hot pot establishments in the area, service here felt functional rather than memorable.

Ambiance
Situated within Lansdowne Mall, the restaurant benefits from ample parking—a convenient perk for diners. Inside, the space is bright, clean, and thoughtfully arranged, with a modern yet inviting atmosphere. While not particularly distinctive in design, it provides a comfortable and pleasant setting for an enjoyable meal.

Pricing is reasonable, particularly given the high quality of ingredients. The restaurant also offers happy hour specials, making it an even more appealing choice for those seeking value without compromising on quality.
Verdict
Happy Lamb Hot Pot successfully delivers a satisfying and well-executed hot pot experience, particularly for those who appreciate high-quality lamb and beef selections. While the service could be more engaging, the thoughtfully prepared ingredients, flavorful broths, and fair pricing make it a worthwhile destination.

Read moreWe arrived by 1915p and were seated by 2015p.It was the first time sitting in as previous visits have been take-out. The food was good the service was quick but the wait time of 1hour for a seat wasn't the most appealing thing. There ironically was another restaurant steps from this one and it wasn't as busy and as such people were seated as a soon they stepped through the door. There was in fact a couple that did so after arriving at this place and quickly left after being told the waiting time approx. The helpful thing was the posted online busy hour peaks even as we didn't heed it. We had read ahead of time from a online article dated this year 2025 about a free buffet hotpot if it was your birthday which was the draw for us going in the first place, but once we told our server we were told "ok I'll give you 10% off. which as it turns out this was not to be the most distasteful part of the experience. The service as noted, was quick with portions of dishes being banged on tables and emptied or dirty plates being grabbed from other tables. The atmosphere was very family restaurant and the noise of groups scattered throughout, all the makings of a busy Saturday night. Being new to it we fumbled through choosing and ordering from the menu on the tablet provided for each table. After submitting our order not long after our hostess came over and said that she had cancelled a couple of orders we just submitted as we had ordered the large size hotpot in err when as a party of 2 we were told we should choose from the small personal sized hotpot portion. Additionally, our hostess quite clearly stated that she had cancelled the large and so as we would not be charged for it. Everything ran fairly smoothly after that point till it came to the bill. My partner being very meticulous about the details of bills and receipts noticed that there wasn't the reflection of the previously stated "Ill give you 10% on the receipt upon paying and then the tune became well the 10% was for noodles if ordered, which we had not. Then once going round with the same hostess a 10% was added and the bill paid and receipt , although it had to be stopped from being grabbed from our hands, was given. Not yet steps from leaving my partner noticed we were charged for items we didn't order and the original order for the large hotpot was still on the receipt. This was immediately brought to them and their attention. It was dealt with and this time the corrected bill was not given to us even as the new receipt was. We were almost charged an extra $26. Previous reviewers have also mentioned items on their bills that weren't ordered or consumed. We were left feeling like it possibly might be...

This was my first time having hot pot abroad. I called a few places to ask about their set menus, and finally chose this one. There were two of us, and we each opted for an individual pot with different soup bases. On Fridays, they offer an all-you-can-eat beef and lamb deal for $18.80 per person.
Since we weren’t interested in staple foods, seafood, or tofu, we just focused on the meats. We also ordered two types of vegetables—pea shoots and crown daisy (tong ho)—because we thought they were perfect for hot pot and both are leafy greens. The pea shoots were super fresh, and the server helped cut them up after bringing them to our table. I really liked them, so we ordered another portion. Interestingly, the container the pea shoots came in could be taken home, and you can actually regrow them twice. That means you get to enjoy fresh pea shoots again at home.
In total, our bill came to $88. We ordered 16 plates of beef and lamb and ended up eating 12. The server told us that it’s truly all-you-can-eat—eat as much as you want, but anything leftover must be thrown away. Seeing how generous the portions were, we quickly returned 3 plates of beef.
P.S.: The sauce station had fruits, canned desserts, and side dishes. The dipping sauce was about $2.90 per person.
Friendly reminder: Order in twos or fours, not too many at once. Waste is shameful. (I aggressively finished half a plate of pea shoots, but after urging them twice, they finally started bringing out the meat. That made us panic-order more because we were starving, which led to over-ordering. Later we found out there was only one person slicing meat at the time, which explained the delay.)
Service: The female server was very nice and attentive.
Parking: Lots of spaces and easy to park.
That pretty much sums up the whole experience. We went around 12:00 noon. As time went on, fewer people were dining, which made it a bit awkward that we couldn’t finish all the meat we had ordered. There was a male staff member in the dining area who constantly scanned the space like a radar to provide better service. But since we had leftovers despite choosing the all-you-can-eat option, his radar-like scanning made us a bit uncomfortable.
So, once again—if you’re going for the all-you-can-eat set, only order what you can actually finish to avoid embarrassment 😅 and waste.
As my first hot pot dining experience abroad, I’d say it was pretty...
