This has been my go to sushi place for years. Best in the village, but until something is done about the “noisy neighbours” next door(Mexican restaurant under new ownership) I’ll only be doing takeout from now on. How can one be expected to enjoy their meal with annoyingly loud “music” blaring from the patio across the parking lot. (you can hear it from across the street)They’re the only restaurant in the village that feels the need to do this. So Mega, if you do get my business again…takeout it is.
**Update Feb. 18, 2022. Thought I’d get some takeout from Mega, and while standing in the parking lot waiting to pick up my order, the ridiculously loud music from the Mexican restaurant’s patio speaker is still blaring… in the middle of winter! Looks like there’s only one good corporate neighbour on this property. As I mentioned in my original review, Cantina is the only restaurant in the village that feels the need to do this. Mega management should seriously deal with this, as it’s going to negatively affect their patio business when the weather gets better in Spring and Summer.
Update Oct 1, 2022.
Tried my luck again today, thought I’d sit on the patio on a nice Fall evening, only to be greeted by a DJ at the Mexican restaurant next door blaring music from his speakers and yelling to the patrons to “make some noise!” You could hear it from Garry Point. Definitely changed my mind and walked away. The Mexican place definitely has no clue about what it means to be a good corporate neighbour in a residential neighbourhood.
Update: Jan 1, 2023 Staff members park in the 3 spots in front of the restaurant and leave their cars there all day, while customers have to find parking somewhere on the road, even during the bad weather.
Most restaurants always leave the prime spots for customers, management of Mega should enforce this with their staff. It’s not a good look for the establishment.
Update Jan. 20, 2023
I can’t stress enough how unprofessional it is for an establishment to allow their staff to park their cars in the 3 prime spots in front of the restaurant, from open to close, at the expense of their customers.
I’ve seen elderly customers have to park a block away and walk to the restaurant because of this.
Very poor customer service.
Update: Mar. 30,2023
Went with my family last week. The food is still pretty good, but lately they’ve apparently decided that customers would want to listen to some annoying radio music while they eat. Not the right thing for their type of clientele. We’ll get takeout next time.
Update May 30, 2023: It would seem the management likes to cut and paste their responses. The annoying music I spoke of in the last update was that from the TV inside Mega Sushi, not the previously mentioned Mexican restaurant next door, which is a constant annoyance.
Update July 4, 2023
Had lunch on the patio today and, like always we had to listen to crappy Mexican music being played loudly from the restaurant next door. The management of Mega Sushi seriously has to talk to the building’s landlord to get this taken care of. It’ll be a long time until I go back.
Update Aug. 27, 2024
The food hasn’t really improved over the years here, just average. Ora on Moncton is much better. If you’re going to get your sushi here, go for takeout, as this place is small, and they cram you in like cattle. They also seem to think playing loud Asian music is what people want while they eat. Not a pleasant...
Read moreExtremely disappointed. The sushi boat for 3-4 was a scam. Totally was not what was shown on their menu!! The sushi boat prices st $69.95 in the picture shows 3 different types of sushi rolls with tobiko and ikura. Sashimi includes toro sashimi, tuna sashimi, hotate, tako, sushi shows tuna, sockeye, ebi, ika, toro. These are usually higher priced quality fish.
But to surprise.. we recieved the lowest priced and bad quality fish. Totally different to what was expected based on their menu picture.
What we actually recieved was 3 rolls with fake crab stuffing. Yes they are 99% identically which filled half of the boat lengthwise. The only differences was the California roll had rice and sesame on the outside while the other had fried shrimp inside and no sesame and just rice on the outside and the third roll had little tobiko sprinkled to stick to the white rice on the outside. Sashimi we recieved was low priced regular tuna, regular salmon, tako, hotate. They basically were bland in taste.
Total rip off and false advertising with the picture!!!
I regret going. Also to mention the rice was not fresh and they poured way too much vinegar. My tongue is very dry after eating the rice!!! FYI, Fresh rice you can eat it’s texture but this rice was just a big blob stuck together. It was gross... They cheaped out on the miso soup too as they supposed to provide 4 bowls with this sushi boat for 3-4 people. They decided to just give us two since we had only two people. I expected the portion would be much more. But it was all unfresh rice to fill you up. The Sunomono noodles were uncooked . It was still raw. It was bad. The tempura and taste of miso soup was good. The uni sushi we ordered on the side and otoro nigiri was good. There was a piece of lemon on the salmon made the meat sour and turned color due to the acid. This is big no no for real sushi chef. They should of used fake green leaves to decorate. But they didn’t. This spoiled the sashimi.
The chef isn’t using his heart to provide best food to customers. They are concentrating to provide you low cost food to maximize profit here!! Walk away if you want real sushi!!!
The chef/ restaurant thinks they can get away with filling up the sushi boat with low cost sashimi and rolls of fake crab meat. We had left overs but this was so bad we didn’t pack it despite we hate wasting food. We regret going and spent over $100 tonight. We should of gone to takeya or matsuyama that at least provides minimum standards of quality to their guest with lower prices!! Won’t be back!!!! This restaurant is one of the worst sushi places I have been to out of 20+ sushi places I tried in 604! Don’t go or you will regret!!! It was so bad I really had to write this long comment to warn others out there that a friend may tell you mega sushi is good as was recommended by our friend. Well maybe before change of ownership but now it has...
Read moreI wanted to give this place a positive review. The amount of food you get for the price is pretty top notch and that is saying something in one of the most expensive cities in the world. My mother and I had the Mega Sushi Tower and the Grilled Salmon Cheek. I have to say the service was sub par to poor. Let me list the ways:
Server brought us our tea cups, tea and soy a sauce dishes but one of the soy a sauce dishes was dirty. She forgot to bring chopsticks and napkins She didn't check in on us once to see how we were doing I actually had to ask the other server to change my soy a sauce dish and then ask her again to bring chop sticks and napkins, she wasn't much better then the first server but at least she gave us some attention (this server actually looked surprise that we did not have chopsticks and napkins when I asked her for it) we were seated right in front of the opening from the kitchen to the front of house so it wasn't difficult for them to miss us or be attentive We were clearly sharing the dishes but no sharing plates were brought until we asked for it They asked us to settle the bill before 9 pm and they closed at 9:30 PM. We arrived at about 8:10 PM and ordered quickly. This isn't a deal breaker as I understand some PMS systems will do roll over set at a certain time of day but she wasn't exactly friendly about it No "last call" check ins were done We were the last table at the restaurant starting at about 9:10 pm. The waiting staff was loitering around almost ushering us out of there so they could close even though closing time was 9:30. They pretty much jumped for joy after we left at 9:25 pm and essentially started clearing the table when my mom was still in the washroom and we hadn't left the table.
Overall, if you're only going for the food and you don't care about service then this is probably the place. I have to say though, Richmond has plenty of places for me to spend my hard earned money at and unless they fix this level of service, I probably won't be back. This kind of stuff really makes or breaks it for me and today was a hard pass. I don't tolerate this kind of nonsense and neither should you. No shortage of Japanese restaurants just...
