We live in the area and try to support all the local businesses. We often eat out in Lakefield at Jacks, Lakefield Restaurant, Cassis Bistro and more…..we decided to try out the Loon. Although none of these restaurant would be in a Michelin Star category, I would expect a good meal for the dollar. My experience Thursday night was horrible as a first timer at the Loon. I’ve never written a food review but I just felt like I was not only ripped off but my night was ruined. The waitress experience was fine. It was the food which was in my opinion almost not humanily palatable. My son and I ordered hot wings with fries. How hard can that be? Well the wings and fries were cold, the chicken was rubbery and raw, let alone not “hot” at all, it tasted like cheap bbq sauce. It was supposed to come with blue cheese for the one carrot and two celery sticks but dill dressing came out. The waitress told us that it was dill but if I wanted blue cheese to ask for it. Why? That’s what was on the menu!! Why should I accept substitute when you have the condiment I ordered. Doesn’t make sense. My wife had a craving for Poutine which was unusual for her to order, and she added some shredded beef on it as a side. Out comes her plate , a soup bowl of gravy, and fatty slabs of roast beef on top. As she was eating it seemed like she was fishing for her soggy store bought fries in the bottom of a pool of substandard tasteless gravy. I actually felt bad for her and added all my fries into her plate to try and salvage her eating experience. Didn’t work as my fries drowned in her pool of gravy. My biggest regret is that we didn’t complain , or even walk out , as we are good people . My first review and hopefully my last review of the Loon. Undoubtedly the worst restaurant experience of my life and I’m 61 years old , never forget this Birthday meal. Yes it was my Birthday Thursday dinner. Can’t turn back time, but I m going to turn my back...
Read moreNatalie, our server, was attentive and helpful. D tried the Chicken Parm sandwich ... crazy good! Chicken was crispy and tender at the same time, I had the wings 'n fries, no complaints and cleaned the plate. I think it was last fall when they opened at their current location. D and I tend to arrive at off hours. Would recommend you make reservations. (June 2022) D and I arrived for lunch and a Blue Jays game. Natalie was here once again, so glad. She's a terrific server, attentive and pleasant. So, I try to never use restaurant washrooms ... enough said. Kudos to Natalie who makes sure the men's washroom is always clean which is so exceptional. The washroom has also been upgraded so what is sometimes disgusting is a pleasant experience. Now to the food! Great wings (me) and burger with cheese and onion ring was enjoyed by D and we split her fries. Other guys seemed to appreciate the $6 pints ... I have no idea a reasonable price. Yup nice experience. (Nov 2022) Been awhile since D and I were in at The Loon. Brodie was our server tonight. What an exceptional young man. Terrific as we watched him behind the bar and offered suggestions for dining. The soup was exceptional and the toasted accompanying toasted bread was perfect for dipping and sopping up! The wings and fries were perfect for me. D appreciated Brodie's insights into the wine list and I appreciate the simplicity of the fries and wings and great coffee. Thanks team, well done...
Read moreMy friend and I came out today for lunch at The Loon . We shared the Chicken Club with sweet potato fries and an amazing dip , and the Santa Fe Salad. Both were delicious and presentation was fabulous . I loved all of the ingredients in the salad - I would have never thought that dates belonged in a salad but it's now going to be one of my favourites . We were very impressed with our meal that our chef Austin prepared for us. His skills are amazing! Our waitress Cass was very attentive and super friendly as well . Had a great meal and we were not rushed so we were able to enjoy our time together and each others company. Will definitely be back soon with family...
