J Kitchen Korean & Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Sidney

I’ve amended my review. We went back there last Saturday and the food was horrible… First off, the customer service was horrible, the girl sitting behind the counter was just plain rude.

Tempura prawns were so thickly coated with something that definitely wasn’t tempura batter it was disgusting… Dynamite roll was inedible and the place itself needs a very deep clean. We won’t be back, we will make the drive into town to eat at Yua or Gozen.

We have lived in Sidney for over a decade but have never tried J kitchen. We will not be going back. The previous reviews looked great, but we found the food and service very poor for the incredibly inflated price tag. The portions are less and the pricing is more than you would find in classier restaurants in Downtown Vancouver or Toronto. We went with a family of 5 the youngest did not eat with us but we were charged a gratuity for as we were a party of 5. The waitress reached over and selected the tip on the machine even as we said he did not order a meal so shouldn’t be part of the party. He is 4 year old with Autism. Really? We weren’t even greeted and served our own water. We didn’t get stellar service for a 30 dollar tip on a 156 dollar bill!
