I was thrilled to see a dumpling restaurant in Sidney, BC, but my recent visit left me with mixed feelings. The interior needs a significant overhaul – the mismatched decor and uncomfortable chairs create an off-putting vibe. The remnants of the previous cafe’s banner and the bathroom’s construction equipment were notable distractions.
The owner, although friendly, seemed to lack business acumen, as the credit card issue could have been swiftly resolved. The Dan Dan mien surprised me with rice noodles instead of traditional ones, and the creamy chili oil sauce on the dumplings felt like an odd fusion. I’d recommend trying the black sesame option next time.
The overall atmosphere gave off a Christian bookstore/cafe vibe rather than an authentic Asian restaurant. While the potential is there, significant effort is needed to refine the space and enhance the overall dining experience.

My favourites are the “ginger bliss” dumplings (pork dumplings with a killer ginger sauce) and the “charcoal spicy” dumplings (pork dumplings with a black sesame sauce and however much spice you want).
The dumplings are flavourful and delicious and the sauces are amazing. The vegetables are always fresh and crisp. Outstanding!
