This review has taken me awhile to get to as life is busy .
We had booked a team dinner at this restaurant October 21 2023 as we staying at the resort for a hockey tournament.
When the reservation was made we were told we need to pre order our meals , which is fine as we are a large group and this is not the first time a restaurant has requested this .
Now onto the visit . When we arrived there was a 6 top , 2 2 tops and 4 people at the bar , I will also mention the 4 top that was there but was related to our team .
Our servers Brad and Aspen were quick to grab all the kids drinks and then shortly after the kids got them they moved on to us .
At this point I would like to point to out that Brad and Aspen did a wonderful job hence the service rating . They were basically left alone to handle our party of roughly 50 . The GM did walk by many times never made any eye contact , spoke to anyone of us nor did he assist Brad and Aspen in anyway ( his name is Steve) .
The kids food came out promptly, however the adult meals did not come out until about 45 minutes after the kids food , anyone with kids know when they are done they are done so this lag in between meals was not good at all . Finally the adult selections came out and we had to rush through eating as the kids were getting restless , at this point most parents were wondering what was taking so long as we PRE ORDERED a week in advance . Not once durning this whole stay did we see anyone besides our servers lift a single dish to help out .
While our servers were putting the bills together ( they looked very stressed out and sad ) I found the manager as I wanted to address our concerns , she really didn’t seem to care so I asked her to find the GM so I could speak to him directly . Steve the GM never came . I was the one who found Steve and talked to him about our service ( again nothing to do with our servers personally , just the speed or lack there of ). When I brought up our concerns his response was “ we were told to get the kids drinks and food and let the adults have a drink before their food came out ( not true as I spoke with the person who made the reservation) . We were there for almost 1.5 hrs before the adult meals came out , when I asked him if he thought this was acceptable his reply was that’s what we were told to do so we did it . Absolutely no care at all from Steve . I would like to mention we were there for 3 hours , ridiculous. No we were not looking for a free meal or compensation.
I know sometime has passed since we’ve been there and I can only hope that Steve has been removed from his position and Brad and Aspen have been recognized for their amazing abilities .
I would like to apologize to Brad and Aspen for taking so long to write this review and I hope they are doing well with whatever they are doing .
Bottom line here is don’t go there with large groups unless you have 3 plus hours to spare . Also thank you to the chefs as the food...
Read moreWe went here last night and I’m really sorry to leave a bad review- I don’t like doing it but I also know the truth helps to show areas where growth is needed and so want to preface by saying that this is not said in any way maliciously. With the patio being directly on the water it looked like the nicest restaurant to go to, and this place has SO much potential to be great, but sadly missed the mark for our experience. We walked in a minute or two before the family ahead of us was taken to their table by the hostess, and then we waited over 10 minutes at an empty front desk before the hostess came back to welcome us and finally seat us. Once seated we again waited 10-15 minutes for our server to show up before we decided we were going to try to find another place to eat. Between how long we were waiting at the front and again at the table without being acknowledged and the prices (burgers for $22-30 and 2pc fish and chips at $31) on the menu for sitting at a wooden picnic table, it wasn’t a great intro. We had kids with us and at the rate things were going and seeing that the tables around us were only just getting their drinks and didn’t have food, we knew it could easily be another 1.5hrs before getting food to our table. We let the server know we were leaving and she apologized and felt so bad, but we knew 100% it was not her fault and tried our best to let her know we didn’t blame her and sometimes that’s just how things go. Honestly, I know the restaurant industry is tricky for managers and have full empathy knowing situations change daily and staffing is always an issue (either too many staffers with no diners, or no staffers and high volume in dining). I would maybe recommend that this restaurant ditch the picnic tables for real tables to make the food prices make sense for everyone. Sitting at a table with chairs on that patio those prices are totally reasonable, but for sitting on a wooden picnic table with a sticky menu where my back is nearly touching the person sitting on the picnic table behind me I would expect prices around $15-20 for a burger in Blue Mountain. Obviously you can’t serve two menus which is why I would just recommend switching out the picnic tables. No doubt the investment would instantly elevate the level of the restaurant and pay off quickly if you had the staff to support it. I would also recommend possibly turning people away if you are understaffed for the night or are dealing with heavier volumes than your kitchen can manage. At the very least, it would be worth considering having two hosts/hostesses on so one can stay at the front at all times to welcome guests as they come in and keep them posted on wait times/serving times and the other can be seating guests and helping the servers. Higher quality menus are not always possible and laminated single page menus can be done well, but sticky is not a good look anywhere. Sad it didn’t work out and hope it was just a one...
Read moreI attend Kaytoo with my husband, sister and brother-in-law on August 28/21. We had reservations for 6 pm. We were seated outside and immediately heard very loud band music playing from across the water, on a floating stage for the patrons enjoyment. However, it was hard to enjoy the music as it was obvious as soon as we sat down that the music was far too loud, so much so that we could not hear each other speak. The volume level was as if they were playing a concert at the Budweiser Stage - definitely not the volume you want while having dinner. First we asked for the music to be turned down, but we were advised that they had no ability to communicate with the band. So we asked to be move indoors (which is not what we intended as the interior is not comfortable and it was a beautiful night). We were given a miserable table in the middle of a high traffic area. When we requested another table - as there were many available - it seemed to be a major inconvenience. After much pleading we were finally placed in a corner. Unfortunately, again we were immediately accosted by noise - the sound of a table of 14 men who appear to be drunk, shouting and yelling constantly. Our very own waitress encouraged this behaviour by drawing names or something out of a hat. Every time she read out whatever was on the paper, the group would roar and create noise so loud, that again we could not speak to each other. This happened approximately a dozen times. There seemed no end to it! But worse was that none of the staff seemed to care. I finally asked to speak to the manager. He advised he was unaware, even though he was there the whole time. Even to speak with him I had to raise my voice to be heard. He advised that he would not speak with the table of men directly as this could cause them to get louder. So we were left with no alternative but to eat the rest of our meal in silence , as we could not hear each other. We were given a discount on our meal, however no apologies and no one seemed to really care at all about it. This was the first time our family was able to get together after Covid. We were so looking forward to enjoying our meal and conversation - sadly that did not happen at Kaytoo. We...
