We made a reservation for my husband's birthday. I wrote in the special comments to have a seat either by the fireplace or by the window so we could see the village. We were seated at a table by the "window" which was the wall and the window awkwardly behind us on each side so no view.
My husband also got no recognition/ oh thanks for joining us for your birthday etc. Where has the standards of good service gone?
We proceeded to order our drinks and then sat for about 15min until not our server but a different girl who saw us looking around come over and ask if we needed anything. We said we would like to order appetizers. Our server was no where to be found. So we told her what we wanted to start with and then she went and found our server. Our server (won't say name) looked like a deer caught in headlights. She was not able to multitask nor "read the room" when looking at her tables. I served for years. I could tell you the status of all my tables without looking at the computer. Times have definitely changed.
She was so focused on her group of 8 people 5 adults and 3 kids that we consistently waited 20min between each task to be checked on for either ordering our mains, ordering another drink and or quality check of my $40.00 steak, that was like 3cm thick by the way. Also didnt bring me a steak knife before the meal arrived. I had to flag someone down for one so I could eat my meal. We felt like we were consistently being forgotten about or having to always ask for the stuff we needed.
Once cutting into my steak I found it was cooked rare to blue rare. I ordered medium rare. I sent it back and they were like well that is actually medium rare and I said no, it's still "blue" / purple. They took it back and set it on the grill without even flipping it. You could tell because the colour ring was wayyy off inside. Still hardly cooked but I decided to eat it as I was done waiting.
To boot, the table beside us also sent their steaks back twice! One lady said screw it she didn't want another and then had a few bites of her friend's once they brought it back. They were so mad understandably.
My husband ordered the salmon, it was maybe an inch thick by and inch wide and only few inches long. It was $37.00. It's like they took a normal steak and a normal fillet size and cut them in half. Talk about #shrinkflation.
The steak came with a tiny ramekin of fries. I had to order a veg (got the Brussel sprouts) for an extra $13.00.The best part of the meal over all was the brussel sprouts.
Save your money and go somewhere else. For the 2 of us we spent $248.00. That includes only a 12% tip. Enough to cover a you tried but no thanks.
We planned on staying to have a few more drinks (willing to spend more money) after dinner as we took a cab there and back but we left once the meal was over. They definitely lost out on our business and we...
Read more1 star actually means minus 5 stars here and too bad we cannot go lower than 0. Serving "single malt apple cider" to a 5yo and arguing with his parents and adult family members that it was "the apple juice" we had ordered specifically for the 5yo was entirely unnecessary and absurd. The story later changed when the manger came and admitted it was "single malt cider" with an attitude that "this is how we serve apple juice in this fancy restaurant it's you guys who don't know better." Just a friendly reminder, please do remind your future peasant customers that they should reconsider if they try ordering your "fancy apple juice" for their young child before they make an order. Lots of these ciders contain some tiny amount of alcohol. We did not choose to walk out because the kids were overtired and everywhere was packed. Just to clarify we paid 18 percent tip for the most unnecessarily ridiculous dinning experience ever for the poor serving staff in the end. The bill still included the flat ginger ale and coke we ordered. This message is directed to whoever there that made those poor executive choices of not being transparent and upfront to educate us peasant customers. You also forgot to let us know the coke and ginger ale were watered down and flat that only fancy customers can taste the carbonation and full flavour. Oh and the food: The brussel sprouts were not bad. The salmon was overly cooked, horribly plated and tasted like can food put altogether. Gnocchi was plain. The pasta and burger were ok. Unfortunately nothing was worth the price, and all were way below a certain level of sophistication that the decor tried to imply. BTW we were grateful that the restaurant did make the chocolate cake we ordered for our 5 yo BD nephew on the house. Our nephew was disappointed that he did not get a candle on it. We were thinking o maybe fancy places don't do candles and singing. Then when we were leaving, the table next to us was served with a small pastry with a single candle and the waitress singing happy birthday...which took us some explanations to calm down the whys from the BD boy for the...
Read moreOne of the worst dining experience I’ve had at a restaurant.
My girlfriend and I arrived on time and were given a table near the kitchen while many other tables were available. I asked if we could get a better table and they accommodated us, this is why they receive 1 star.
The waitress took our drink order and came back fairly quickly. The drinks were OK. After receiving the drinks the waitress got really distracted with a table, she’s was clearly having more fun than us while we waited to give our order. Eventually I left the table, walked to the waitress and told her we were ready to order, I’ve never had to do this before, it felt really strange, it’s not like we went to Jack Astor’s for diner, no offence to Jack Astor’s they never gave me bad service
The food arrived 45mins after we sat… It was bland, for once I was thankful that the portion was on the smaller side.
The kitchen staff kept walking by a side door letting in a gust of cold wind disrupting all the patrons near the door while having dinner. There was a main door 7m away which he could have used however he just thought it would be pleasant for everyone to experience the great outdoors whilst having a tranquil family diner. He might of saved a total of 20 seconds but it definitely cost him the waiters tip
Given the location, price and overall setting of the restaurant, this was definitely very unexpected, relatively I’ve had more peaceful experiences at local diners
We called for the manager in order to provide feedback on our experience however she was very dismissive and did not acknowledge how disruptive her staff was.
I would not return nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. Also the drink menu is lacking especially for a place with the word cocktail...
