I’m Greek myself and I’ve been to every single Greek restaurant in the entire GTA. I’ve never been to a Greek restaurant that didn’t serve their meal with salad, rice or pita and remains full price at 35$ . For me it’s unheard of to have a Greek traditional meal without being an accompanied by rice salad OR pita? Those 3 items you would’ve had to pay extra for ... Chicken souvlaki on top of a few grilled vegetables next to a couple potatoes was a little bit odd to me. I have never seen a Greek meal like this.. The meal on the left is what I received at Tholos, the meal on the right with salad rice and potatoes is what every single traditional Greek meal looks like. I find Tholos to only be exciting to those who have never tried Greek food before or are just tourist haha so now that the lovely owner has replied, let’s take apart what he said. Any owner who spends his time replying in paragraphs to all of the bad reviews clearly shows what he does with his time instead of professionally apologizing and figuring out how we can make the situation better. Stating that it comes with two Greek sides made me laugh out loud. Grilled vegetables is not a Greek side? Carrots and Asparagus, you consider a Greek side? There are grilled vegetables in every single country that can be accompanied by the plate. my chicken souvlaki dinner came with 4 potatoes . Maybe instead of replying to every single bad review being combative and trying to rebuttal, listen to your customers! Lol Your replies are what is scaring away future customers. It’s hilarious. GO on Google images, go on Instagram go into any other Greek restaurant and you will never find a chicken souvlaki dinner that does NOT come with rice, potatoes, pita bread, chicken, souvlaki, tzatziki, and salad. It does not exist. This is the ONLY “Greek” restaurant I have ever been to that put grilled chicken on top of vegetables and calls that a full chicken souvlaki meal.

We arrived on a Saturday night in January at 8pm.  First impressons were ambiguous... the place had good atmosphere, but they were crowding people in by having the tables too close together.  It was crowded and busy, but luckily there was no wait...probably due to the extreme cold weather (-25 Celsius).  I say luckily because we had tried to make a reservation but were told all reservation spots were taken.  We decided to take our chances as the person on the phone had also advised that, because of the weather over the last few nights, they did not anticipate us having to wait long, and they were right. Service was immediate, friendly and thoughtful (the waiter noted one of our tables had a slight wobble and took care of it without me complaining... which I would have.. or tried to fix it myself.  I hate that) and continued to be excellent throughout.  As other reviews have mentioned, the prices are a little on the expensive side, but in line with other restaurants in the village.  Be prepared to drop a minimum of $200 CAD for a party of 4 having entrees only with 1 bottle of wine. For an entree, the chicken souvlaki dinner seemed a bit small, but I've been assured it was very good.  I myself had the lamb shank, which was expertly prepared.  The lamb was seasoned authentically and distinctly different, but flavourful and very tender.  The two sides (mixed vegetables and Greek potatoes) were also, individually excellent.  You could tell that care had been taken with every aspect f the meal. When first impressions don't go well, I tend to get extra critical and things go downhill from there, but I'm happy to say this did not fit that pattern, and i would have given Tholos a 5 if not for the overcrowding.

We arrived and were politely greeted. We were then given the option of inside or outside seating. I said outside is fine under the condition that it is under an umbrella and shaded, as I have a slight sun allergy and the party I was with is very fair complected. We were seated under an umbrella. We then ordered calamari and chicken souvlaki to split. We waited, and waited, and waited!!!! It took longer than any restaurant I have ever been to. It got to the point where people in the group started running errands to not waste anymore time while waiting. Eventually the food arrived and it was fine. Not the best Greek but not the worst. Presentation was decent. The carrots were all different consistencies of cooked. Some were crunchy, some were cooked properly. The asparagus wasn't cooked enough so the inside was still hard to chew. The potatoes were significantly undercooked. Greek potatoes should be soft and melt in your mouth. These were basically crunchy. At least the chicken was done well. The calamari was... Okay. The bread coating slipped off a lot which usually means the squid wasn't dried or floured enough prior to the seasoning and bread coat. But it was....okay. The real kicker for why I'm rating this lower... Was 2/3 of the way through the meal THEY CLOSED THE UMBRELLAS. I asked for the bill bc at this point it would have been more work to move. This was literally the only thing I required and they said they could oblige. Chances are low I'd return.

HORRIBLE DINING EXPERIENCE! August 2023 MANAGEMENT! You need to get a grip of things! You have prime real estate and poorly managed. This was THE worst dining experience ever!

DDD...DARK, DATED & DIRTY

No table clothes, a little votive candle in the center of a wabbly table. Plenty of servers, but only 3 kitchen staff...1 that made strictly salads, and 2 cooking. The restaurant was busy, not crazy inside and patio. We waited 52 minutes before our server took our app order, and we immediately gave our main course order at the same time. We had front row seats and saw everything that was going on in the kitchen and bar. We patiently waited and watched the servers all standing in front of the kitchen waiting for their orders to serve their tables, we thought all hell would break loose in that kitchen! and the Owners/Managers one in a blue golf shirt and shorts, and another gentleman looking like a yuppy walking around sipping his tea, neither of them checking on guests and/apologizing for the delay. We asked to refill of our drinks, and it was passed on to someone else, who still did not get us our refills...10 minutes go by, and another server who had noticed, stepped up to the plate and she got our refills even though we were not her table.

The Owners/Managers should have put on an apron and get in the kitchen, after-all before they became owners, I'm sure they were cooks.

Three tables that were already there seated before us, were also waiting on their food, and for whatever reason after their food arrived, they left and didn't pay. The table next to us got nastly! A family party of 4, received their food cold, foul language at it's finest, he took his bottle of wine in a bag left and didn't pay a penny!

FINALLY we got our food at 9:30 pm. The food was good. Priced OK. We were the last ones there, and it was past 10pm...restaurant closes at 9pm. We asked for our bill, they gave us a discount, we tipped genorously because of the frustration we saw in our server, while still keeping her cool. The restaurant needs help! It needs to be shut down on the off peak season, do a thorough clean up, b because its filthy! put bathrooms on the main level instead of having guests go to the basement and please! freshen it up...it truly needs it.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

I hope that people take the time to read this review. We love Greek food and it wasn't cheap...we were an adult party of 4, we expected better Date of visit: August 2023

It pains me to write such a brutal review as this has been one of our favourite spots in the village. My family and I vacation up at Blue every summer for the past 13 years. Tholos was always a great place with quality food and consistent service until this time. Yesterday - Tuesday August 22nd we went out for what we thought was going to be a nice dinner and it turned into a complete disaster. 90 mins seated and our entrees were nowhere to be seen, witnessing service staff arguing with the kitchen which was absolutely disorganized and understaffed. 30 mins after we order, we are told that they are out of Pork Souvlaki not a big deal my daughter happily changed her order to the chicken. No food, waiting, manager comes over to apologize and she was sincere and I could tell embarrassed as she made the rounds to several other tables to apologize as many tables waiting forever for their food. When I asked what is happening with our entrees I am then told they are out of one of the sides that I picked for my entree over an hour before. Finally food is brought to the table, my chicken dry, cold, didn't even look marinated, my wife's chicken pink. So I called the manager over and asked her if she thought this was worthy of a $300 dinner check. She was very nice and apologized and we walked out - well after 9:30pm no dinner and nowhere to pivot to as everything in the village closes early. My kids settled for an order of fries at the poutnierie. There is no excuse for the poor service, poor quality of food and poor execution of the restaurant. No reason that your waitstaff worked for free as many tables had the same experience as we did. Our server was friendly and I feel bad for her as I am sure it probably costed her several hundred in tips - our bill if we had stayed would have been north of $300. Your restaurant should have been closed for dinner service as clearly your kitchen wasn't up to the task. For repeat visitors who are creatures of habit when vacationing at Blue, sadly it has likely costed you a few customers and...
