On a dense, cold, and rain-drenched evening, I found myself seeking refuge not merely from the weather, but from the quiet desolation of routine urban dining. Indian eateries in downtown Toronto have often left me disillusioned, their offerings diluted to placate the masses, bereft of authenticity, and devoid of soul. I approached Angara Downtown with tempered expectations, a faint glimmer of hope flickering amidst my doubts. The moment I stepped inside, the warmth of the place and its people embraced me like an old friend. Amanat 🙏, the gracious host, welcomed me with a sincerity that immediately disarmed my cynicism. She spoke with such earnestness about the menu, weaving a narrative that piqued my curiosity and addressed my fussy culinary demands with remarkable patience. Her insights and suggestions weren’t just informed—they were intuitive, a testament to her understanding of both cuisine and her patrons. At her behest, I chose the Chef Special Lamb Angara, accompanied by freshly baked naan. She promised to tailor the spice levels to my exact preference, ensuring that my experience would be as personal as it was delicious. When the dish arrived, sizzling on a cast-iron skillet, the very sight was transformative. Outside, the rain continued to beat relentlessly, but within those walls, the air shimmered with an almost sacred warmth. The curry—deep red and generously spiced—was a visual poem, its creamy consistency punctuated by aromatic bursts of garlic, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. As I tore into the soft, pillowy naan, the edges lightly charred and glistening with butter, I dipped it into the rich pool of curry. The first bite was transcendence. Words fail to capture the sheer ecstasy that coursed through me; it was as though the dish had unearthed a memory my palate had long forgotten—a primal satisfaction, pure and unfiltered. The flavors were perfectly orchestrated, each note harmonizing with the next: the smokiness of the lamb, the velvety embrace of the sauce, the subtle heat that lingered just long enough to be remembered. It wasn’t merely a meal; it was an encounter with perfection. For a moment, time bent. I found myself savoring each bite with an urgency that was almost reverent, my appetite a willing captive to the culinary brilliance before me. Amanat’s service did not falter. She suggested I try the Dahi Puri, a delicate medley of crisp shells, chilled yogurt, and tangy tamarind chutney. Balanced to a fault, it was a dish that spoke of restraint and mastery, its flavors a gentle counterpoint to the boldness of the lamb curry. For that evening, Angara was more than a restaurant; it was a sanctuary. Amanat and her team had created something rare and unforgettable: an experience that soothed the soul and celebrated the art of cooking in its truest form. To those seeking a culinary haven in the city, Angara Downtown is not merely a recommendation—it is an imperative. Each visit pulls me back with an irresistible force, and I leave each time with gratitude and awe. Amanat, thank you for guiding me to this fulfillment. You’ve not just served a meal; you’ve restored a piece of my faith in the world. Must try!

Review based on my experience as on 31st March 2024 around 3:30 PM. The ambience and vibe of this place is too good! After talking with the staff, came to know this is a new location and explains why we found it empty. We found a hidden gem! What we ordered 1) Hakka Chicken Noodles 2) Chicken Chilli 3) Garlic Naan and Naan 4) Chicken Handi We were 4 people and man words can't explain how delicious our Chicken Chilli and Hakk Noodles were. The wait was a bit long but the food felt like it was brought straight out of India. It felt so desi !!! It was beautiful! Hopefully we will visit soon. So after the indo chinese the chicken handi and naan never hit the sweet spot. They were well cooked and tasty, but the noodles and chilli was love! Why 4 star you might ask. Well the service was a bit off. New place, I give them the benefit of doubt and hope they get some people coming in, because man it must be tough to rent a place in downtown and given the vibe and taste of the food. The menu is not that expensive at all!!! Hope they improve their service. Side note about an incident I noticed- There was this girl who walked in with her resume to look for a job. I saw how well the staff welcomed her and took her resume, I am rooting for you to get the job and settle down in this beautiful country. Hope these guys hire her!

We were in downtown searching for a restaurant to eat at after finishing up a show at CAA theatre. I’m vegan and sometimes it’s difficult for my gf and I to find a place that has both veg and non veg options that both of us can enjoy. We really wanted a good atmosphere to sit in and stumbled upon this place that was surprisingly open late as well (we got there for 11ish). When we arrived, there were a few parties waiting to be seated. From first glance it seemed like they were either understaffed or just too busy to handle the amount of people in the restaurant. Regardless, we were seated in about 10-15 minutes which isn’t bad. They were kind enough to clean up the booth for us. I ordered the Tandoori Soya Chaap that was DELICIOUS, especially with the chutney and they made it vegan as well. We also shared the schezuan noodles which they were able to make vegan and it was delicious. Service was slow and it took some time for us to get the food, bill and take out containers near the end. Overall, the food, atmosphere and kind service trumped that and the restaurant is staying on the list of favourites in DT.

I honestly cannot say enough amazing things about Angara Restaurant. From the food to the service, everything is simply perfect. The team here are such genuinely good people, and they make you feel like family from the moment you step in.

I want to give a special shout-out to Amanat, who is truly the bestest! She is incredibly sweet, kind, and thoughtful—a rare gem in the service industry. What completely blows my mind is how she remembers everything about her guests. If you’ve been there even once, she’ll remember you the next time: how you like your food, the kind of service you prefer, and even the little details that make your experience extra special. The level of care and personal attention she provides is unbelievable. Amanat doesn’t just do her job—she genuinely cares, and it shows.

And then there’s Chef Aman, whose cooking is on a whole other level. Every dish feels like it’s been made with pure love. You can taste the passion and heart he puts into his food. The flavors, the freshness, the presentation—it all comes together in the most delightful way. It’s been a long time since I’ve had food this good. It doesn’t feel like you’re eating at a restaurant—it feels like someone who truly loves you cooked for you.

And special shoutout to restaurant manager. Such a gentleman he is.

If you’re in Toronto and haven’t visited Angara yet, you’re truly missing out. This place is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience, thanks to amazing people like Amanat...

I've read so many online 5-star reviews of Angara from diners, that I wondered if they were actually legit. Open for about a year, I decided to give it a try for lunch today, and I found out... This restaurant is the real deal! This is possibly the finest, most authentic, and most unique-tasting Indian cuisine I've ever experienced in Toronto. The service is warm and helpful. The decor and music is festive and funky. Portions are more than generous. (I had to take almost half of my meal home, for dinner.) The lunch specials are an incredible deal. Mine was fork-tender lamb curry with a beautiful, thick, intense curry sauce, and it included loads of buttered naan, basmati rice, chopped vegetables, and two dips (yoghurt and green herbal). All for only $12.99! I also treated myself to an excellent mango laasi ($7.99), and for dessert (not that I wasn't already stuffed!), their rice pudding was sprinkled with slivered almonds and rose water. It was creamy, but somehow also light and very refreshing. Dinners are busy, but lunches can be on the quiet side. (That will change when word-of-mouth gets around.) Thank you, Chef Anil and server Amanat, for an exceptional culinary experience! Food: 5/5. Atmosphere: 5/5. Price: 5/5 (Affordable, particularly for the high quality of the food, and the very generous portions. (And an absolute steal for lunch!) Treat yourself and friends to Angara. You'll be glad you did!
