Had the worst experience at the Bakery Garden Cafe today. Came into the shop on a Thursday evening to grab a hot cup of coffee and maybe a pastry or two. After ordering the coffee I asked about the whitish looking cake looking (?) item, what it was and how much it costed. WAs told that it was a almond pastry with fillings and costed $6.00 per piece. Seeing that there were quite a few of those left in the display window I thought the manager would maybe sell it at a discount, especially it was close to closing time. I balked after learning the price and opted for a chocolate cookie instead. The total came out to be $4.25, I even included a 15% tip when I paid, so now the total $4.62.
When I sat down to eat I took out a homemade sandwich I had made earlier to finish it with the coffee since i was quite hungry by then. Just after taking a few bites of the sandwich the store manager came to me and told me that "no outside food was allowed in the store". I told him I was not aware of that since i was a new customer there (literally my second visit to the store). The manager was adamant about his store policy and said there was a display sign which details this store policy. I said I never took notice of the sign and therefore was not aware of the policy.
Despite my reasonings he showed the least understanding and empathy despite the fact that I had already made a purchase at the store with the coffee and cookie earlier. He proceeded to request that I leave the store so I had no choice but to leave.
I felt I was mistreated, harassed by this insensitive and indignan man (not to mention my privacy was violated in the process). He showed zero compassion and empathy, just very disappointed with this whole experience. Would NOT recommend this coffee shop to...
Read moreA friend of mine wanted to meet here, i have never been and will never ever come back again to this place. I have asked the man for the code for the washroom and i sincerely didnt understand what he said, i told him that i didnt understand what he was saying, if he could repeat it. From that moment, this absolutely insecure man went on a nasty tirade of insults and even preventing me from ordering from the woman or the staffer that was serving. The wood chairs are about the fully disintegrate, i amost fell on the ground. We left and i realized that i forgot something and came back, thank god, it was there. Picked it up and left, when i tried to speak to the woman, this rude, primitive Indian man came on to me and said to her, please do not serve him. He then proceed to ask me never to come back. ALL of this based on his insecurities because i wasnt able to understand what he said. Obviously, i will never come back, but i wanted to write this review to say that we dont need this type of childish, primitive treatment, when we are spending our hard earned dollars where the staff treats its customers...
Read moreWell, when this place first opened, I wasn't sure what to make of it. And then I went inside. It's nothing fancy, but it was lunch time and I saw they had sandwiches. I figured what the hell, and the price was very reasonable. I ordered the tuna melt, and wasn't expecting much because it's tough to get a good tuna sandwich nowadays.
This tuna was some damn fine tasting tuna, I was seriously surprised. Plus the sandwich was made on a quality multigrain bread, with quality ingredients inside, and wrapped up artfully. It's so good that I've been back several times since, and keep ordering the tuna melt. I've tried other sandwiches, like the Cuban and the turkey, and they're both excellent as well.
The real secret ingredient as I found out, is Peter. He's the tall, thin gentleman who loves making sandwiches and it shows. He's a great guy, and you will be addicted to his sandwiches. Guaranteed. He will take good care of you and takes great pride in his work. The rest of the staff have always been friendly and helpful.
Ps, I'm on my way there now to pick up my lunch as I dictate this on my...
