Summary: Absolutely delicious vegan/vegetarian food with wonderful service. Full marks for an amazing family dining experience at Bellona Jane!

Review: This morning, we went for a bike ride along the Humber River Recreation Trail in the Old Mill area. Quick tip: park for free at Etienne Brûlé Park.

The night before, I was researching restaurants on Google and noticed a spot with an incredible 4.9/5 rating right near the trail: Bellona Jane. Even better, it’s a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Since I’ve been craving good vegan food ever since my friend closed his place, this was an easy choice. A few clicks later, I had a table reserved for 12:30 pm.

We wrapped up our ride around 11:45 and, not wanting to wait, I called the restaurant. The owner picked up, happily moved our reservation to noon, and we were set.

When we arrived, we were the first ones there. Our table was ready with a jug of water in the center, and we were warmly greeted and seated by the owner/chef, Johnnie. He’s a great guy - friendly, patient, and happy to answer all our questions (including a couple of special requests for my sliders).

The menu looked too tempting to hold back, so we ordered a feast for lunch: Carciofi Fritti, all three types of sliders (two Portobello, eggplant, and “mestball”), Plant-Inspired Caesar, Pappardelle Bolognese, Sofia Pizza, Chocolate Chip Brownie, and Apple Fritters. We also tried the mango and pineapple Italian sodas, which were a huge hit.

Food highlights:

Eggplant Sliders: The focaccia bread, lightly drizzled with olive oil, was fantastic. The fresh tomato sauce in the eggplant sliders was outstanding and fresh.

Carciofi Fritti: My kids were hesitant about the mini artichoke hearts, but once they tried them, they couldn’t stop.

Plant-Inspired Caesar: According to my kids, this was the best Caesar salad they’ve ever had. Enough said.

Pappardelle Bolognese: Fresh, flavorful sauce paired perfectly with the soft, refreshing noodles. The kids especially loved this one.

Apple Fritters: Warm fritters dusted with cinnamon, topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. Definitely an indulgent, delicious finish.

Thank you, Bellona Jane, for a lunch to remember. We can’t wait to come back and explore more...

One of the best dining out experiences in Toronto in my almost three years here. As soon as you enter, the restaurant's vibe of a warm and cozy hug envelopes you. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and boy oh boy we had the night of our lives. We were greeted with a very warm smile and some friendly chatter by Olivia our hostess and her apprentice in training, Joy. They went above and beyond to make our special day even more memorable and I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Now let's come to the most important part, the food. Our entire food experience was par excellence and I must commend the chef and his team for the divine food and excellent presentation. We ordered from the set three-course Cantina menu and our order went like this: Appetizers - Hummus Pomodoro & Eggplant Parmesan Sliders: Both the dishes were excellent. The balsamic glaze on the hummus is a winner and the focaccia was melt in your mouth good. The sliders were cooked superbly and even people who don't like aubergines will love them. +1 to Olivia for the recommendation. Entrees - Spiced Tofu, roasted garlic & Artichoke pizza and Bellona Calzone: Again such well cooked and super tasty dishes. The restaurant set the bar with the appetizers and beat it with the entrees. The pizza was delicious and we have never tasted a pizza like that. The Calzone was a pocket full of goodies that went super well with the in-house caesar and marinara sauce. The marinara sauce was so delicious by itself that I could finish an entire container. Dessert - Tiramisu and Apple Fritters: The Tiramisu was absolutely authentic with the rum soaked goodness oozing out with the mascarpone. The apple fritters with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream was super yummy. Again awesome recommendation by Olivia. Cherry on top was the wonderful birthday song and the effort put by Olivia and Joy to make my wife's birthday the best ever! Much love to you both! I could write a thousand more words and not be able to do justice to the high-quality of food, service and the atmosphere. We drove from Mississauga and it was completely worth it. I will surely be returning to this restaurant with many more people who love good food and hospitality. Bellona you have my heart forever!

Plant Inspired Eggplant Sliders: These sliders were a delightful introduction, blending breaded eggplant, vegan mozzarella, and basil pesto mayonnaise on house-baked focaccia. A harmonious fusion of flavors and textures. Hand Cut Parmesan Truffle Fries: The truffle aroma and vegan parmesan elevated each bite of these indulgent hand-cut fries, setting a new fry standard. La Segreta Ravioli: Red wine-infused ravioli stuffed with tofu cream cheese and paired with Portobello mushrooms in blush sauce, a revelation of creativity and indulgence. Crumbled Sausage and Cremini Mushroom Pizza: The sausage, cremini mushrooms, roasted red pepper, and mozzarella created a savory masterpiece on this pizza, leaving us craving more. Pesto Cream Pizza: Lemon pesto cream, artichokes, red pepper, and vegan mozzarella danced in harmony, offering a refreshing and innovative pizza. Vegan Lasagna alla Mama: Layers of pasta sheets, cremini mushrooms, Bolognese ragu, bechamel sauce, and vegan cheese created a hearty dish showcasing Bellona's authenticity. Birthday Dessert Platter: Bellona went above and beyond with a stunning dessert platter, including Tiramisu, rum-soaked cake, and delightful Vegan Cannolis. A sweet symphony to conclude the meal. One of the best dining out experiences in Toronto in my almost three years here. As soon as you enter, the restaurant's vibe of a warm and cozy hug envelopes you. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and boy oh boy we had the night of our lives. We were greeted with a very warm smile and some friendly chatter by Olivia our hostess and her apprentice in training, Joy. They went above and beyond to make our special day even more memorable and I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Now let's come to the most important part, the food. Our entire food experience was par excellence and I must commend the chef and his team for the divine food and excellent presentation. We ordered from the set three-course Cantina menu and our order went like this: Appetizers - Hummus Pomodoro & Eggplant Parmesan Sliders: Both the dishes were excellent. The balsamic glaze on the hummus is a winner and the focaccia was melt in your mouth good. The sliders were cooked superbly and even people who don't like aubergines will love them. +1 to Olivia for the recommendation. Entrees - Spiced Tofu, roasted garlic & Artichoke pizza and Bellona Calzone: Again such well cooked and super tasty dishes. The restaurant set the bar with the appetizers and beat it with the entrees. The pizza was delicious and we have never tasted a pizza like that. The Calzone was a pocket full of goodies that went super well with the in-house caesar and marinara sauce. The marinara sauce was so delicious by itself that I could finish an entire container. Dessert - Tiramisu and Apple Fritters: The Tiramisu was absolutely authentic with the rum soaked goodness oozing out with the mascarpone. The apple fritters with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream was super yummy. Again awesome recommendation by Olivia. Cherry on top was the wonderful birthday song and the effort put by Olivia and Joy to make my wife's birthday the best ever! Much love to you both! I could write a thousand more words and not be able to do justice to the high-quality of food, service and the atmosphere. We drove from Mississauga and it was completely worth it. I will surely be returning to this restaurant with many more people who love good food and hospitality. Bellona you have my heart forever!
