If you're a matcha fan, this place is a must! This cute Japanese cafe has a lot of matcha (and other flavour) pastries and soft serve. They have plenty of seating, so it's a great place to hang out with friends or spend a quiet afternoon. On my visit, I tried their Matcha Eclair and Matcha and Strawberry Soft Serve with Kinako in a Puff.
Matcha Eclair: I usually donât like eclairs but this matcha eclair is DIFFERENT; it has a crunchy and crumbly outer shell with a matcha custardy-cream like center. I love that the outer shell is almost cookie-like and the matcha flavour in the custard is very prominent. Highly recommend you pick up one (or more! They also have other flavours like earl grey too!) next time you are in the area. âŁ
Matcha and Strawberry Soft Serve with Kinako in a Puff: The matcha soft serve itself tastes similar Tsujiriâs (one of my favourites) but since I got the mix, I found the strawberry was a bit too overpowering for the delicate matcha flavour (if youâre a strawberry pocky fan, youâll love the strawberry soft serve), but was still good. I recommend getting the soft serve by itself because choux (puff) in general doesnât have much flavour and is pretty bit dry so it needs that decadent custard cream filling to add flavour...
Read moreStopped by Bloom Cafe and between the two of us, we cleaned up: my friend devoured his hojicha and I⊠finished my soft serve. Now, if you know me personally, youâd know that Iâm that one weirdo who doesnât like ice cream (yep, I said it). So the fact that I finished every last bite? Thatâs a big deal.
The flavor combo I had was matcha and grape â sounds like a culinary dare, right? But somehow, it works. Itâs balanced, not overly sweet, and super refreshing. đđ” Would 100% come back just for the soft serve.
As for the vibe, Bloom Cafe is quiet, cozy, and private â a great spot if youâre looking to have a calm coffee chat or need a peaceful place to study or work. Thereâs plenty of seating and no blaring music, which is becoming rare these days. đ§ââïž
Theyâve also got a solid variety of drinks. Iâm not a coffee person (shocking, I know), but if you are, theyâve got you covered. If youâre not, there are still plenty of non-coffee options, so no FOMO here. Plus, they have a display of pastries and cakes that look so tempting â I already made a mental note to come back and try one (or three đ ).
Have you tried their cakes? Any must-haves I should look out...
Read moreThe café is cute, but the desserts and drinks are overpriced for what they are. There is a lot of seating and calm music plays while you sip on drinks and eat pretty desserts.
The tart ($5.75) crust looks (and tastes) premade, hard and not like they are supposed to be. The yuzu filling was the best part of the tart.
The strawberry double fromage ($6.95) is very light, but not what you want when seeking out a cheesecake. The price point is similar to LeTAO at $8.50 a slice but the taste is not even close.
The yuzu float ($4.95+1.75) was very watery tasting, and there were many large chunks of ice. If you get the soft serve (+1.75, not included in the cost of a float lol.. just sell "yuzu ice" for $5 and "yuzu float" for $6.75???) the strawberry soft serve is pretty awful, the matcha one is better, but I would have preferred my float without the soft serve overall.
The strawberry daifuku ($5.00) was made with matcha mochi as well as matcha paste, which was grainy, and unpleasantly different from standard strawberry daifuku, which uses simple sweet mochi and red bean paste.
Overall I was disappointed and will not...
