đBeyond the Usual Brew: Discovering Authentic Indian Coffeeđ
Tucked away along College Street, this Indian coffee shop is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking a rich, authentic coffee experience. While my friend suggested we grab a quick Starbucks at Dovercourt, I wanted to support a local cafĂŠâsomething with character, warmth, and passion. Iâm so glad we kept walking because what we found was nothing short of perfection.
âď¸Ambiance & Atmosphere
From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a modern yet vibrant space that perfectly balances cozy charm with stylish decor. The seating is comfortable and invitingâideal for working, studying, or even a casual date. Everything is meticulously clean, creating an environment that feels both relaxing and inspiring. And the best part? â¨ď¸A huge hidden patio out backâ¨ď¸âa true oasis in the middle of the city. Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to sip your coffee in solitude or a lively space to chat with friends, this cafĂŠ has something for everyone.
âď¸The Coffee Experience
This is where the magic truly happens. Unlike your standard grab-and-go coffee shop, this place takes coffee seriouslyâespecially when it comes to traditional Indian brewing techniques. The process is intricate and detailed, with each step carefully executed to create a rich, bold, and aromatic cup of coffee that feels like a labor of love. If you visit, I highly recommend ordering the traditional Indian coffeeâyes, it takes a little longer to prepare, but trust me, it's absolutely worth the wait. The result is a deeply flavorful, smooth, and comforting beverage that feels extra special because of the care that goes into making it.
âď¸Beyond Coffee
In addition to their incredible coffee selection, they offer a variety of teas, coffee beans, and brewing equipment so you can recreate the experience at home. They also serve a delicious selection of sweet and savory treats that pair perfectly with their drinks. Whether you're in the mood for something indulgent or a light snack, there's something to satisfy every craving.
âď¸Service & Staff
The staff here are genuinely warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. You can tell they have a real passion for what they do, and theyâre always happy to chat about the menu or offer recommendations.
âď¸Final Thoughts
If youâre looking for an exceptional coffee experience that goes beyond the ordinary, this Indian coffee shop is a must-visit.    Read moreI have been going to this place since before they rebranded it to Mayil and I will always take everybody I know here too!
The vibe of the cafe is very cozy, warm and you would love to sit here for hours without getting bothered. My favourite corner is next to the shelfs at the armchair. I've been here with my boyfriend for random kaapi dates when I miss home a little extra and also with my girlfriends for a fun cafe day. They have games to keep you entertained and amazing quick bites that you would definitely enjoy on warm sunny days but also cold winter days.
They started their cocktail menu and I had to give it a go! I tried the Kaapi Martini and A Jamun x Thyme Cocktail. (I am very bad with names)
I would rate the Kaapi Martini 8.75/10 and the Jamun Cocktail a solid 10/10! The Kaapi flavour in the Martini goes so well with the light coconutty taste. Light, Frothy and very Desi twist to a cult classic! The Jamun Cocktail was the best cocktail I have ever tasted. So refreshing, with the little notes of thyme complimenting the flavours so well.
If you had to try three items only from their Menu, I would 100% recommend the Idli Podi, Filter Kaapi (obviously!) and the Jamun Cocktail for...
Read moreCute little cafe with a very clean and modern interior. I tried the Kaapi with chicory and it was quite good - a bit nutty, sweet, and with a strong coffee flavour - I will definitely come back for that. I didn't get the chance to try their snack options; maybe next time! There was a bit of a blip in the service (barista completely forgot about my order because there was a sudden rush of to-go orders), but it was an honest mistake.
I will say though, I also got the masala chai to-go (for $7 after tip) and it was unfortunately one of the worst masala chais I've had in the city, especially at that price đľ It just tasted like cardamom water and there was absolutely no tea taste. Maybe it was just bad luck on my part, but I think I'll stick to their coffee...
