This bakery has the worst staff ever. The staff was rude, ignorant and lies without thinking. And the experience was horrible! When I was about to pay, the cashier said it was 9.90 and cash only. I didn’t bring cash and I told her that they should have cash-only signs up. Then she grabbed this small sign which was hidden behind a big statue indicated cash only, and she said there is sign outside as well. She also said i can E-transfer. So I apologize and said sorry I didn’t see the signs. And I entered the email and sent 9.90 for the e-transfer and I tried to show to her. She didn’t care to see the confirmation. I didn’t get email that it was deposited although I usually get the email right away. So she checked her phone and she didn’t receive the money. I said I know, I said usually I get email response right away too, but sometimes there are delays. But this lady just insisted that the e-transfer is always done RIGHT AWAY. She was accusing me of not sending the money, or sent to the wrong email address. Then I was still calm and said “I did send it, I understand you didn’t get it yet, but I’ve sent it, it’s out of my hands now”. Then I showed her the email address that I sent the money to, then instantly she said that’s not the email address. But I knew it can’t be wrong unless the email she gave me was wrong. I double checked the email she provided on a piece of card board, it was the same, and I told her that. Then she said read it wrong, she read somewhere else. Which I didn’t say anything, but I just felt she is dumb. So we were waiting, I asked my friend to get the car while I was waiting. I tried to cancel the e-transfer because I didn’t wanna wait anymore. But I couldn’t even cancel it. So later, I said again I sent it already, trying to show her in the history and it was sent to that email address. Then this lady called her boss, her boss also says she didn’t receive the money. I said I know, but I sent it already, sometimes there are delays. But again this lady just insisted that delays never happens, and that they always get the money right away. That really pissed me off. So I got frustrated and impatient. Because she was rude to me and basically accusing me of not sending it. One co-worker of her even agreed with me and said sometimes there are delays. But that lady just kept saying “no, it doesn’t happen, we always get it right away”. I know this cashier lady is just ignorant. I’m sure she doesn’t deal with e-transfer all the time as this bakery is in Chinatown and people always carries cash in Chinatown. But anyway, at the end my friend came in and said it’s ok just call the bank to cancel the e-transfer. So he paid $10 cash to her. Then I asked them what if they receive the money after? The lady still just said no it’s not gonna happen, which I didn’t bother to argue anymore. But other guys in the store just asked me to leave my email, and they would send money back if they receives it. Then I left and I checked everywhere outside, there was no signs say cash only at all. That lady just lies instantly, like when I showed her the email, she just instantly said the email was wrong without even looking at it. And earlier, she instantly said there are signs outside indicates cash only when I suggested that they should have signs outside. The overall experience was horrible! The food isn’t even that good, look at the egg tarts, they are so bad!
Lastly, 3 hours later, I received an email indicating that the money was deposited….i called them asking for refund. I still haven’t received refund after two days. I tried to call again, no...
Read moreOne of the better bakeries in Chinatown that hasn't really racked up it's prices unjustifiably - points for upholding value to the customer, an increasingly rare consideration of bake shops that know they'll get foot traffic regardless of diminishing quality.
Selection is solid, general quality of their bread is fres and moist. They even have that nice x-factor if just the right amount of elasticity that other joints may sometimes miss the mark on. Even the ones taken home kept relatively well across a couple days. My family and I immediately noticed that the amount of fillings beats out many other Toronto chinese bakeries, the marinade isn't overly sweet/salty, and you aren't left with the unquenchable thirst usually accompanied by unnecessarily MSG-laden products carried by your typical Chinatown bakery. Amongst my haul were the BBQ Pork, pineapple, curry beef, creamy chicken, and hot dog buns, as well as a BBQ roll and egg tarts.
Don't let the generic name fool you, there's something classic to a good, simple bun and being to take a healthy bite of nostalgia that isn't disappointing. With prices that won't leave tou grumbling about overly-inflated markups, don't walk past it if you're in the area... You're making a BIG mistake. Pop in, load up a tray, and see for yourself. For under 20 bucks, I loaded up 3 trays holding every single bun I wanted to try, and then some.
Edit: author immediately realized he spent even less than his poor memory recalled. Try just over 11 bucks on for size. I can now cross having committed roadside robbery off my...

as you know chinese bakeries are cheap, but even among chinese bakeries this one is on the cheaper side. For most common items you find in all chinese bakeries rarely will you see anything exceed a dollar. despite its cheapness the taste is quite good. I find that some of the edge of the spices you find in things like pork and curry items has been taken off. you may find a lot of items you don't normally see in other places (the middle area in the photo) but this should be a given since each chinese bakery has (or should have) something unique. this last one is actually the number one reason why i like this bakery the most. It is also the reason why i took off a star in the review. they have the best meat buns (bao). the white domes are soft and chewy and meaty. I really enjoy the meatiness of their pork buns but even more their bbq pork buns. they got the saltiness and sweetness just right. now the reason i took off a star is because my most recent trip to the shop left me slightly disappointed because they had a bamboo pork which is no longer made. it did cost more but worth the price. i must remember to ask why they don't make it any more.
tip: the regular pork buns can feel a little greasy. unfortunately there is no heat in the buns to balance so i recommend a little bit...
