If you want a home-style feel with excellent authentic northern Chinese food made from the heart, this is the place to go. No strings, or flare, just honest, good food made by your Chinese auntie, grandma or mama. Stirs up memories from childhood eating at a relative's house.
Theres also a saying where if the food is really good, perhaps the service doenst need to be stellar. And vice versa, if the service is too good, the food can then be questionable.
I walked into the restaurant on a very busy Friday night, only 3 ladies working both as service and cooks, running around like crazy for a full restaurant. Its amazing to see all sorts of clients eating here and enjoying the food.
Another reason why this reminded me of eating at home is the brutal honesty, which I dont mind but might be a bit of a stretch for some that expect smooth, efficient service.
When I sat down to eat, I asked for ice water. The waitress mumbled and ranted about me ordering ice water and came back with tea, and convinced me that tea was better. OK no problem, I like tea too, my aunties would also be badgering me about drinking ice water.
The food that came out was honestly great. We had the beef and onion pancakes, so simple but so good. Nice and hot, crispy on the outside, mouthfuls of juicy beef. Same with the pan fried dumplings-lamb and dill, Juicy, hot and crispy on the outside, unique and strong flavors that complement each other. Cucumber and jellyfish salad, fresh tasting, yet sweet and a bit of chilli oil, very QQ and firm texture of jellyfish, it was just what we needed to balance out the fried and hot dishes. Chive and fish dumplings, boiled, light and filling, feels great in the mouth and warmed our bellies. If you order the dumplings boiled instead of steamed or pan fried, you get 2 extra dumplings. =)
During payment, it was again the brutal honesty. I did not have enough cash on me, albiet the waitress asked for cash, i showed her what I had and said I didn't have enough. Ok, so we take out the debit machine. Not happy with our 10% tip, so we added cash on top of the tip. The last time this happened, it was in Montreal (no suprise there) but this was a bit of a shock at a mom and pop Chinese restaurant. But ok, these ladies worked hard and made me feel at home, so why not? My bad.
I've been making and boiling dumplings with my family as long as I remember. I bought 5 bags of frozen dumplings (only 10 bucks for each bag of 15-20). We ended up waiting 15 mins after payment for someone to have enough time to walk out to the freezer outside the restaurant to grab them so we can go. Felt like a really long 15 mins, but at my grandma's house, it takes forever to say goodbye right?
All in all, 100% worth going, brings your friends, they are quite accommodating of big groups if possible. You'll have a better time with low expectations on service, tip 15% if its not a big deal to you. Bring cash with you, and dont order ice water. Also, if you want frozen dumplings,...

This unassuming spot, a true definition of a hidden gem recommended by several friends, finally lived up to the hype. We gathered a group of people who really enjoy food and prepared for a culinary adventure. Yummy Yummy Dumplings absolutely delivered ❣️
The moment we stepped inside, it felt like we'd been transported to a bustling street food stall in China. The vibrant atmosphere, the aroma of sizzling dumplings, and the lively chatter all contributed to this authentic experience.
The menu is a treasure trove of deliciousness. We started with the crispy, golden green onion pancakes and beef pieces with a great sayce. Then, the savory stuffed pork pancakes, all of which were devoured quickly. The star of the show, however, were the dumplings. We indulged in a variety – pan-fried, steamed, and even those delightful soup dumplings that burst with flavor in every bite.
But the culinary delights didn't stop there. The soupy hot buns and big buns were surprisingly light and flavorful, and the fried rice were cooked to perfection. Every dish exemplified the chef's skill and passion for authentic Chinese cuisine.
The service was equally impressive. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. Despite the restaurant's popularity, the food arrived promptly, allowing us to savor each dish without delay.
Some things to keep in mind: Cash Preferred: Keep in mind that Yummy Yummy Dumplings primarily accepts cash, so come prepared.

I was craving soup dumplings and this restaurant has such good reviews that I just had to come here. It's a tiny restaurant down some steps, so it might be hard at first to find if you don't know what you're looking for exactly. There isn't a ton of seats, so if it's busy, you might need to wait for a table.
The restaurant itself could use a huge facelift. The washrooms were dirty and very small. The whole place just feels outdated - minus the tables and chairs. I came on a busy Saturday night but was seated fairly quickly. They cleaned my table before I was seated but the dish cloth they used to wipe the table was definitely used.. my table just smelled like a used dish cloth, sadly. There were also a TON of mosquitos. We were seated right in front the of door, so perhaps this could be why.. but the most odd thing is that they would just drop onto our table and food, and almost die or stop moving instantly. Not sure what was going on.. but it ruined my appetite.
ONTO THE FOOD: the most important reason why I'm reviewing! We ordered the Juicy Pork Dumplings (soup dumplings), fried shrimp & pork dumplings, & chive pancakes. The soup dumplings were just okay. The filling wasn't as flavourful as other ones that I've tried from other places. It was missing something but I can't figure out what it is. The pancakes were really good, and I wish I ate more but they were dripping I grease, so I couldn't eat more than 2. I didn't have any of the fried dumplings but my boyfriend said they were very greasy as well. We actually had to go get a drink from a bar close by just to get rid of the greasy feel in our mouths.
I honestly wouldn't come back here myself. A lot of other people gave this place high reviews so I'm not sure if I just had a bad experience or not. But the greasy food and mosquitos flying around or dropped dead in front of us...
